An electromagnetic device for controlling the supply of current to an electric starter motor includes a pair of fixed contacts on a support for connection to a power supply and a starter motor, respectively. A movable contact which is adapted to engage both fixed contacts is carried by a movable core of an electromagnet so that upon energization of the electromagnet, the movable contact engages both fixed contacts to complete the circuit to the starter motor. A spring is provided for biassing the movable contact away from the fixed contacts upon de-energization of the electromagnet. A flexible braided conductor is permanently connected between the movable contact and one of the fixed contacts to provide an equipotential electrical connection therebetween.

The invention discloses an electrodynamic type short-circuit method for a no-powering-off aluminum electrolyte bath in aluminum electrolysis series and a device for utilizing the same. In the device, when the aluminum electrolyte bath is powered off or powered on, a short-circuit block is in parallel connection with a disconnected arc-extinguishing switch which is only provided with an arc-extinguishing cover and a pair of contacts, and the short-circuit block and the arc-extinguishing switch of the aluminum electrolyte bath are connected with an electric appliance control linkage which controls actions of the short-circuit block and the arc-extinguishing switch. The method and the device of the invention have the advantages of simple operation and convenient assembly, and can avoid the powering-off of all serial aluminum electrolyte baths, prolong the service life of the aluminum electrolyte bath and greatly lower the loss caused by the powering-off and the shut-down of the aluminum electrolyte bath; moreover, because the short-circuit block and the arc-extinguishing switch of the aluminum electrolyte bath are connected with the electric appliance control linkage, the opening, the closing and the cooperation of the opening and the closing of the short-circuit block and the arc-extinguishing switch can be completed by the electric appliance control linkage, which is convenient to operate and improves the stability for the short-circuit powering-off operation.
