TLDR
The use of a double horizontal incision is preferred for use in radical neck dissections for patients who have received irradiation to the neck in post-irradiation cases.
Abstract
The use of a double horizontal incision is preferred for use in radical neck dissections for patients who have received irradiation to the neck. Three-point junctions should be avoided in the irradiated neck and a vertical limb dispensed with if possible. The adoption of the double horizontal incision in post-irradiation cases has almost doubled the primary healing rate.

The cutaneous blood supply of the neck: relevance to incision planning and surgical reconstruction

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed neck dissections on 17 adult cadavers after perfusion with radio-opaque microfil silicone rubber compound and found that myocutaneous perforators were seen passing from the sternocleidomastoid, strap muscles, and trapezius to supply the dermal-subdermal plexus.

A modification of the MacFee incisions for neck dissection.

TL;DR: The author has for years employed curved modifications of the two horizontal incision lines of the basic MacFee incision pattern to develop a wa skin bridge which is freely mobile and gives better access to the deep structures.

Radical neck dissection. Mortality and morbidity.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that radiation therapy does give a higher incidence of complications in direct proportion to the amount of radiation used, but contrary to some reports, the mortality and morbidity of the radical neck dissection are lower than previously thought.

Neck Incisions Relative to the Cutaneous Vasculature of the Neck

TL;DR: The vascular basis of ischemic and congestive changes in neck flaps with various incisions is presented and a single transverse midneck incision combined with a far lateral venrical incision which preserves the arterial supply to the skin of the neck is suggested.

J incision in neck dissections.

TL;DR: In this paper, the advantages, disadvantages and results of J incisions, which have been performed on 320 radical neck dissection patients in our clinic between 1985-1996, were compared with those of other incision types.
