TLDR
Germanium tetrachoride in association with such an amount of aqueous hydrochloric acid of 5.5 to 6N strength to form a second liquid phase, is distilled in the presence of suficient chlorine to saturate the system whereby the arsenical contamination is reduced to 0.005 p.p.m. or less as mentioned in this paper.Abstract:
Germanium tetrachoride in association with such an amount of aqueous hydrochloric acid of 5.5 to 6N strength to form a second liquid phase, is distilled in the presence of suficient chlorine to saturate the system whereby the arsenical contamination is reduced to 0.005 p.p.m. or less. The chlorine may be generated in situ by the addition of an oxidizing agent such as potassium dichromate or chlorate, but is preferably added from an outside source. The tetrachloride may be converted by hydrolysis to the dioxide which has an arsenic contamination of 0.01 p.p.m. or less.read more
