The invention provides an input method based on a video stream. The input method based on the video stream specifically comprises the steps that the characteristic part in a specific recognized area in the video stream is determined; the movement track of the characteristic part in the video stream is obtained, and at least one piece of code information matched with the movement characteristic part is obtained; a candidate character corresponding to the code information is displayed; the text content in a current user interface text editing area is updated based on a selected character according to a selected command of the candidate character. The invention further provides an input device based on the video stream. According to the input method and device based on the video stream, the situation that the space of a screen is occupied by characters input through a keyboard, and accordingly, the content displayed on the screen is covered can be avoided, and user experience is greatly improved.read more
