TLDR
In this article, clinical dysarthria test scores on lip function and tongue function were compared for 77 dysarthric as well as non-dysarthric subjects with multiple sclerosis (MS) and 15 control subjects.
Abstract
Clinical dysarthria test scores on lip function and tongue function were compared for 77 dysarthric as well as non-dysarthric subjects with multiple sclerosis (MS) and 15 control subjects. Results showed that tongue function was consistently more severely affected than lip function. When comparing non-dysarthric MS individuals with control subjects, the MS subjects' scores on tongue function (but not lip function) were significantly lower

Rating neurologic impairment in multiple sclerosis An expanded disability status scale (EDSS)

John F. Kurtzke
- 01 Nov 1983 -
TL;DR: A new Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) is presented, with each of the former steps (1,2,3 … 9) now divided into two (1.0, 1.5, 2.0 … 9).

Differential Diagnostic Patterns of Dysarthria

TL;DR: Thirty-second speech samples were studied of at least 30 patients in each of 7 discrete neurologic groups, each patient unequivocally diagnosed as being a representative of his diagnostic group, leading to results leading to these conclusions.

Clusters of deviant speech dimensions in the dysarthrias.

TL;DR: Correlation matrices were used to demonstrate co-occurrence of deviant speech dimensions observed and led to the emergence of eight distinctive clusters of dysfunction, which may serve as hypotheses for more accurate physiologic and neurophysiologic measurements.

Multiple Orofacial Indices in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

TL;DR: This study addressed whether multiple measures, including static isometric maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), a dynamic measure of the peak rate of change of force (PRCF), an upper motor neuron (UMN) index, and a functional disability score (FDS) might enhance understanding of speech dysfunction in ALS.
