TLDR
In this article, the watermark carries additional bits representing a digitized attribute (image characteristic) of a particular video frame of the video signal, for instance an average value of the amplitude of a video field.Abstract:
Method and apparatus for 'copy-once' of a digital video signal uses a watermark in the video signal. The embedded watermark has two versions: one indicates copy-never and a second indicates copy-once, the difference being a single watermark bit. The watermark carries additional bits representing a digitized attribute (image characteristic) of a particular video frame of the video signal, for instance an average value of the amplitude of a video field. The frame whose attribute is carried in the watermark has a field (or frame) marker, which is a special signal located in the overscan portion of the frame. A compliant video recorder verifies the watermark and the copy-once bit (48, 54), extracts the associated attribute from the watermark (56), and compares (68) it to the measured attribute (58) of the marked video frame. Only if the extracted attribute value and the measured attribute value match, is recording enabled. During the recording process (70), the frame markers are stripped (72), preventing second generation copies of the recorded video signal, and the copy-once bit is set to copy-never.read more

Connected audio and other media objects
TL;DR: In this paper, a decoding process extracts the identifier from a media object and possibly additional context information and forwards it to a server, in turn, maps the identifier to an action, such as returning metadata, re-directing the request to one or more other servers, requesting information from another server to identify the media object, etc.

Optimization methods for the insertion, protection, and detection of digital watermarks in digitized data
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present methods and systems for encoding digital watermarks into content signals, including window identifier for identifying a sample window in the signal; an interval calculator for determining a quantization interval of the sample window; and a sampler for normalizing sample window to provide normalized samples.

Method and system for digital watermarking
TL;DR: In this article, a method for applying a digital watermark to a content signal is described, and a watermarking key is identified, which includes a binary sequence and information describing application of that binary sequence to the content signal.

Authentication of Physical and Electronic Media Objects Using Digital Watermarks
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a digital watermarking method for authenticating a media object, which transforms a media signal to a frequency domain comprising an array of frequency coefficients, and alters the selected first set of coefficients so that values of the coefficients in the set correspond to a pattern.

Copy protection for hybrid digital video tape recording and unprotected source material
TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid digital/analog video recorder prevents both analog and digital copying by detecting anti-copy bits present in the input material and in response preventing recording, and then adding an anti copy bit to the input digital stream, preventing later copying of such material.

Method and apparatus for copy protection for various recording media using a video finger print
Ryan John O,Copeland Gregory C +1 more
TL;DR: A method and apparatus for copyright protection for various recording media such as Digital Video Discs (DVDs) uses a combination of a Video Finger Print Signal and an Authenticating Signature to permit the player to handle either copy-protected or non-copy-protected media, in a manner that is difficult to compromise as discussed by the authors.
