In controlling a slab reheat furnace, the average temperature of each slab in a zone is predicted as a function of the ambient temperature, thermal properties, dimensions, location, velocity and past thermal history of the slab. The deviations between the predicted average temperatures and predetermined desired average temperatures are weighted as a function of location before being summed to establish a performance index. Proportional plus integral control techniques are used to determine what change in a zone temperature set point will drive the performance index to zero.read more

Methods and apparatus for heat treatment and sand removal for castings
TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for heat treating castings and removing sand cores therefrom is presented, where the castings are initially located in indexed positions with their x, y, and z coordinates known.

Integrated metal processing facility
TL;DR: An integrated metal processing facility in which molten metal is poured into a series of molds at a pouring station to form metal castings, which are then transferred to a heat treatment line is described in this article.

Method for controlling furnace temperature of multi-zone heating furnace
Shinya Tanifuji,Yasuo Morooka +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a method for controlling furnace temperatures of a multi-zone heating furnace having a feedback control system for detecting and inputting a furnace temperature and a temperature setting device or a combustion control computer of the type for determining an optimum furnace temperature for each slab and outputting it as a set point to the feedback controller.

Combination conduction/convection furnace
Scott P. Crafton,James L. Lewis +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a single furnace system is combined with two or more distinct heating environments (which in the preferred embodiments include a conduction heating environment and a convection heating environment) integrated such that the multiple environments define a continuous heating chamber through which a moving workpiece transitions from one heating environment to the other without being exposed to the atmosphere.

Method of controlling the temperature of a heating furnace
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a temperature control method for heating, with a heating furnace having at least one heating zone provided with a controllable heating means, materials charged into the heating furnace such that an aimed temperature of the material is reached by the time when the materials leave the heating furnaces.

Furnace control system
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a control of rate of input of heat to a continuous furnace to ensure that the temperature of the billets, slabs, or the like, at discharge from the furnace is of desired or predetermined magnitude different from that of the furnace.
