Apparatus which may be mounted upon a lay barge to weld an end of a pipe spool to an end of a pipeline used under water, includes a stand fixed to the pipeline to support and secure its outer end, a pipe spool support which may hold a spool in coaxial relationship with the pipeline and with one end abutting the outer end of the pipeline, a laser positioned to direct a beam of coherent radiation along the axis of the pipeline, a reflection system including a mirror mounted for movement through an arc of 360° in the path of the laser beam to reflect that beam radially on the abutting ends of the pipeline and pipe spool, and a laser energy source for generating a beam of sufficient intensity to weld together the abutting ends of the pipeline and the pipe spool.

The apparatus comprises a carriage having mounted thereon a column supporting a pipe end jointing mechanism, the carriage being reciprocable together with the column. The column pivotably supports a cantilever member of which the free extremity pivotably supports the pipe end jointing mechanism including coaxially arranged grippers adapted to retain the ends of the pipes being jointed in a desired position.

Pipe centering apparatus

Welding apparatus for automatically welding in the groove formed by the adjacent ends of large diameter pipes comprised of welding heads mounted on a carriage having three coplanar guide wheels such that the end guide wheels are spaced at least greater than 180 DEG from each other, which wheels forcibly engage the weld groove surfaces and guide the welding heads around the pipe in perfect alignment with the weld groove. Usually two welding heads are provided so that the welding is substantially continuous from start to finish.

Pipe welding apparatus

A rotating type soldering device is used for soldering a heat pipe and includes a rotation mechanism. The rotation mechanism includes an actuator and a plurality of wheels. The heat pipe is arranged between the wheels. A soldering mechanism with a solder gun is arranged on one side of the rotation mechanism. The solder gun is corresponding to one side of the heat pipe and electrically connected to a first electrode. A liquid-supplying mechanism is arranged atop the wheels. The liquid-supplying mechanism is electrically connected to a second electrode, which has different polarity with the first electrode. Therefore, the liquid-supplying mechanism can supply electrically conductive liquid to an exterior portion of the heat pipe. The electrical arc is intense and the thermal deform of heat pipe is small.

An apparatus (10) for splicing a heatable section (20) of a tubular heater (12) to a cold section, (22) with the heatable section (20) having an outer sheath (78), which has a heating element (84) therein, while the cold section (22) has an outer sheath (88) which includes a cold pin (94). The apparatus (10) comprises an enclosure (12) defining a chamber (62) which further defines opposed openings in communication with the chamber (62). A welding tip (130) extends into the chamber (62) and is capable of melting the cold pin (94) and welding the ends (80,90) of the heatable and cold sections (20,22) together in a splicing operation.
