Abstract
This invention relates to a method and apparatus for reducing iron oxide to metallic iron, utilizing a continuous process employing a reducing gas with a high H2 and CO content made by catalytically reforming a mixture of gaseous hydrocarbon and reacted off-gas from the reduction process. The CO2 plus H2O present in the reacted off-gas are utilized as the hydrocarbon reforming oxidant, without the addition of reforming oxidant from an external source.
