Seven species ofOedogonium Link collected from Mauri lake, Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh during July 1984 to August 1986. Of theseOedogonium boscii (Wittr.) Hirn var.minor var. nov. is new for Phycology; two species viz.Oedogonium grande (Kuetz.) Hirn andOedogonium praelongum Hall.ex And. are first records for India and the remaining 4 species viz.Oedogonium mexicanum (Wittr.) Hirn,Oedogonium exocostatum Tiffany var.jodhpurense Goyal,Oedogonium costatosporum Jao var.longisporum Gonzalveset Sonnad andOedogonium epiphyticum (Trans.et Tiffany) Tiffany are new records for northern part of India.

The present paper aims to describe a new, macrandrous and monoecious species of Oedogonium LINK (Oedogonium sangirica sp. nova) growing epiphytically on grass in a pond of village Sangira, south Bihar, India.



In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird eine neue, makrandische und monozische Art der Gattung Oedogonium LINK (Oedogonium sangirica sp. nova) beschrieben; sie wurde epiphytisch auf Grashalmen wachsend in einem Teich im Dorf Sangira, Sudbihar, Indien, gefunden.

During the year June 1953 to May 1954, when the author was attached to the Rajaram College, Kolhapur, he, in his spare time collected over seven hundred vials of algae from Kolhapur and preserved them in 4% formalin. Intensive collections were made particularly from the parts of Kolhapur known as Takala, Khan, Rankala lake side. These algae have now been studied and included in this paper . Kolhapur is situated 16° 42' N and 74° 14' E in the Maharastra State in Western India . It is 570 metres above the mean sea level . The geology is essentially that of the Deccan trap formation . The rainy season commences in the first week of June and continues up to the end of September. The maximum rainfall is received in the month of July and about 40% of the total rainfall is received in this month only . The average rainfall is 100 cms . During the year 1953, the rainfall was 140 cms. The minimum and maximum temperatures recorded were 52° F in June and 106° F in April . There has not been so far, intensive study of the algae of Kolhapur . Five taxa belonging to the Charophyceae have been recorded by PARANDEKAR (1935) and DIxIT (1940); seventy nine diatoms have been recorded by GANDHI (1956, 1958), recently a few taxa have been mentioned by KAMAT (1926). In this paper 402 taxa, exclusive of diatoms, have been recorded including thirty-nine new species, twenty-eight new varieties, and fourteen new forms . The algae of Kolhabpur, India

During the year June 1955 to May 1956, when the author was attached to the Gujarat College, Ahmedabad, he, in his spare time, collected over a thousand vials of algae and preserved them in 4 formalin. The collections were made from pools, puddles, ponds, lakes, moist soils, tree-trunks, etc . Intensive collections were made from Ahmedabad and Sarkhej, a village 6 kilometres from Ahmedabad . Collections from near by places such as Vatva, Bareja, Barejadi, Aslali, and Sanand were also made, the algae from these places have also been included in this paper. Ahmedabad is situated 23° 1' N and 72° 31' E in Gujarat State in Western India. It is 53 metres above the mean sea level and 80 kilometers north of the head of the Cambay Gulf . The rainy season commences in June and continues up to October; the maximum rainfall is usually in the month of August . The average rainfall is 710 mm, during the year 1955, the rainfall was also 710 mm . The minimum and maximum temperatures recorded during the year June 1955 to May 1956 were 52° F in December 1955 and 113° F in May 1956. The soil of Ahmedabad is of alluvial type and is loamy having 15 % of clay and 35 % sand; however the percentage of sand sometimes may be higher, reaching up to 62 % . The author so far has not come across any records of Chlorophyceae from Ahmedabad and its environs. In this paper, 126 taxa are recorded including 8 new species, 8 new varieties and 2 new forms .

Chlorophyceae of Ahmedabad, India

NO member of the Oedogoniales has yet been described from the United Provinces. I t is therefore desired to record these algae in a series of papers. The present communication deals with some of the forms collected from the rice fields of Gorakhpur and Benares during last two ),ears. In all the twenty-five forms have been recorded, and out of these six species, s ix varieties and thirteen forms are new.
