TLDR
An oil base drilling fluid having very low oil fluid loss even under extreme conditions of borehole temperature and pressure contains a primary weight material comprising barium sulfate or the like and a small amount of a secondary weight material including inert particulate material having a particle size less than about 3 microns as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract
An oil base drilling fluid having very low oil fluid loss even under extreme conditions of borehole temperature and pressure contains a primary weight material comprising barium sulfate or the like and a small amount of a secondary weight material comprising inert particulate material having a particle size less than about 3 microns. Inert metallic oxides such as iron oxide and titanium dioxide are suitable secondary weighting materials.

Method of using a spacer fluid for spacing drilling muds and cement

TL;DR: A spacer fluid emulsion comprising approximately equal volume parts of a hydrocarbon oil and fresh water, and containing from about 15 to 40 pounds per barrel of an emulsifier, about 0.5 to 1.5 pounds of a strong surfactant-dispersant, and a weighting material in an amount effective to impart a density to the spacer fluids of from about 8 pounds per gallon to about 20 pounds per gallons.

Drilling fluids based on sulfonated elastomeric polymers

TL;DR: In this paper, a polar cosolvent can be added to the mixture of oil drilling mud and sulfonated elastomeric polymer to increase the solubility of the polymers by decreasing the strong ionic interactions between the sulfonate groups.
Patent

Sized barite as a weighting agent for drilling fluids

TL;DR: In this article, an additive that increases the density of fluids used in a wellbore during the construction or repair of oil, gas, injection, water, or geothermal wells comprises a well-bore fluid containing a sized barite weighting agent.

Drilling fluids with nano and granular particles and their use for wellbore strengthening

TL;DR: In this article, the authors described a drilling fluid for wellbore strengthening having nanoparticles and granular particles, which plug fractures in the well-bore to strengthen the well bore.

Improved drilling fluids based on a mixture of a sulfonated thermoplastic polymer and a sulfonated elastomeric polymer

TL;DR: In this article, a polar cosolvent is added to the mixture of oil-drilling mud and sulfonated thermoplastic and elastomeric polymers to increase the solubility of the oil drilling mud by decreasing the strong ionic interactions between the sulfonate groups.

Nonaqueous drilling fluid

TL;DR: In this article, the present invention relates to improvements in drilling fluids for oil and gas wells and pertains more particularly to the oil-base type, where nonaqueous drilling fluids or muds are usually prepared in a manner analogous to the preparation of clay-water base muds.
