TLDR
A mathematical model developed in analogy to electrical circuits which examined the pressure, flow, and resistance relationships for arterial and venous segments of the vasculature of a tumor and surrounding normal tissue showed that the steal phenomenon is the dominant mechanism for redistribution of host blood flow to the tumor.

Drug Resistance and the Solid Tumor Microenvironment

TL;DR: How the tumor microenvironment may be involved in the resistance of solid tumors to chemotherapy and potential strategies to improve the effectiveness of drug treatment by modifying factors relating to the tumormicroenvironment are described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Normalizing Tumor Microenvironment to Treat Cancer: Bench to Bedside to Biomarkers

TL;DR: Current efforts are directed at identifying predictive biomarkers and more-effective strategies to normalize the tumor microenvironment for enhancing anticancer therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Delivery of molecular and cellular medicine to solid tumors

TL;DR: A paradigm of analysis and synthesis has allowed us to obtain a better understanding of physiological barriers in solid tumors, and to develop novel strategies to exploit and/or to overcome these barriers for improved cancer detection and treatment.

Transport of molecules, particles, and cells in solid tumors.

TL;DR: This paradigm of analysis and synthesis has fostered a better understanding of physiological barriers in solid tumors and aided in the development of novel strategies to exploit and/or overcome these barriers for improved cancer detection and treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Delivery of molecular and nanoscale medicine to tumors: transport barriers and strategies.

TL;DR: This review discusses the origins and implications of transport barriers to drug delivery in tumors, and highlights strategies for overcoming these barriers by modulating either drug properties or the tumor microenvironment itself to enhance the delivery and effectiveness of drugs in tumors.
