TLDR
In this article, the polycondensation of an alkali metal sulfide with a dihalide compd. in the presence of a specific quaternary ammonium salt is discussed.
Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase intrinsic viscosity, decrease reaction time, and improve mechanical strengths by conducting the polycondensation of an alkali metal sulfide with a dihalide compd. in the presence of a specific quaternary ammonium salt. CONSTITUTION: An alkali metal sulfide (e.g. sodium sulfide nona-hydrate) and a dihalide compd. of formula I (wherein R 5 and R 6 are each H or a hydrocarbon group; and R 7 is a direct bond or a hydrocarbon group) (e.g. 1,6-dibromohexane) are polycondensed in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst comprising a quaternary ammonium salt of formula II (wherein R 1 to R 4 are each an aliph. alkyl group provided that at least two of them are 6C or higher alkyl) (e.g. trioctylmethylammonium chloride) in a solvent at 50-150°C. Preparation of polysulfide compositions

TL;DR: In this paper, a process for the manufacture of liquid polysulfide polymers is described, which allows for making the liquid form of the poly sulfide polymer directly and eliminates the need to first make a solid poly sulfide polymer and then convert it to a liquid.

Liquid polysulfide polymer and method for producing curable composition

TL;DR: In this article, a method for producing a curable liquid polysulfide polymer using epoxy resins and amines was proposed, which has low viscosity, has sufficient flexibility, and has a high achievement degree of the hardness at initial hardening relative to the final hardness.
