Where psychology meets physiology: chronic stress and premature mortality—the Central-Eastern European health paradox

TL;DR: Chronic stress theory is proposed as an integrating theory that can be applied to different psychological models and is applicable to the explanation of the suddenly changing patterns of premature mortality rates in transforming societies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biosocial theory of psychopathology: a three by three factor model.

TL;DR: An effort has been made to describe a broad based theoretical scheme for understanding emotional disorders in mentally retarded individuals, and it is stressed that a link must be drawn between etiology, assessment, and treatment, if a model with maximum practical benefit is to emerge.
Journal ArticleDOI

Behavioral strategies for the reduction of pain and anxiety associated with orthopedic trauma.

TL;DR: EMG-biofeedback relaxation and relaxation training were relatively equivalent for all measures, and little or no change was observed for those patients who received attention only or served as controls.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Process of Research in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

TL;DR: Following the extraordinary trauma that has been produced by all of these situations, a very uniform symptom complex has been noted, including insomnia, startle reactions, nightmares, numbing of emotions, survival guilt, memory impairment, and avoidance of any conditions that may arouse recollection of the traumatic event.
