Abstract
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely quantitate total phosphorus of inspection water in short time.SOLUTION: In the method for quantitating the total phosphorus of the inspection water by decomposing a phosphorus compound contained in the inspection water to be converted into phosphate ions and quantitating the phosphate ions of the inspection water, alkali metal salt of peroxodisulfate and sulfuric acid are added to the inspection water, and heated for predetermined time at temperature from 65°C to boiling temperature. Then, a coloring agent containing at least one hydroxyl group-containing compound selected from a hydroxyl group-containing compound consisting of hydroxycarboxylic acids and alditol, a saccharide compound selected from a saccharide compound group consisting of aldose of carbon number 5, aldose of carbon number 6, ketose of carbon number 6 and a monosaccharide generation compound capable of generating one of the monosaccharides by decomposition and hexaammonium heptamolybdate is added to the inspection water to be heated for predetermined time at 65°C or higher, and after that, absorbance of arbitrary wavelength within a range from 600 to 950 nm is measured for the inspection water.
