Abstract
PURPOSE:To expand a band width of transmittable light and improve transmission characteristics by providing an intermediate layer of a refractive index smaller than that of a core and a clad between the core and the clad. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate layer 3 having a refractive index n3 smaller than refractive indexes n1, n2 is provided between a core 1 having the refractive index n1 and a clad 2 having the refractive index n2 enclosing this, and these are so constituted that the refractive index difference DELTA1 between the core 1 and the clad 2 and the refractive index difference DELTA2 between the intermediate layer 3 and the clad 2 become mutually equal and of opposite polarities. With such constitution, the entire dispersion is made <=+ or -1ps/Km/nm in a wide band including the wavelengths at which the transmission losses of a quartz optical fiber becomes minimum; therefore, super wide band and super long distance transmission can be performed by WDM (wavelength multiplexing).

Multicore optical fiber

TL;DR: In this article, a multicore optical fiber configured to minimize inter-core crosstalk is presented. But it does not specify the number of cores in the fiber, only the cladding region that integrates the cores.

Optical fiber and its manufacture

TL;DR: In this article, a glass film is formed around a base material of quartz glass, and the resulting core-clad structure is put in a drawing furnace kept at about 2,000 deg.C, and drawn to form a fiber.

Optical fiber transmission line

TL;DR: An optical fiber transmission line capable of suppressing the generation efficiency of four wave mixing in transmitting wavelength multiplex signal light was proposed in this article, where a zero dispersion wavelength is varied in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber more largely than manufacturing variations in manufacturing conditions of optical fiber.

Multi-core optical fiber

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-core optical fiber with a plurality of core portions extending along a central axis of the fiber, a common cladding portion integrally holding the core portions inside, a coating layer surrounding the common core portion, and a bend applying portion, as an example, is provided on a partial region of an outer periphery of the coating layer.

Optical fiber structure and a method of producing thereof

TL;DR: In this article, the radial dimension of the buffer (BUF1) was adjusted to compensate variations in the refractive index (nCO) of the core (COR1) in order to reduce bubble formation during manufacturing.
