Mantle metasomatism in 14 veined peridotites from Bultfontein mine, South Africa

TL;DR: In this article, the peridotite xenoliths from Bultfontein, South Africa are characterized by recrystallization zones and both grain-boundary and coarser veins with abundant mica, amphibole, and diopside, and minor Ba-Sr-Ca-Zr-Cr-titanate (crichtonite structure; enriched in light rare earths), Cr-spinel, and Mg-ilmenite.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mineral inclusions in pyrope crystals from Garnet Ridge, Arizona, USA: implications for processes in the upper mantle

TL;DR: In this paper, mineral inclusions in pyrope crystals from Garnet Ridge in the Navajo Volcanic Field on the Colorado Plateau are investigated with emphasis on the oxide minerals.
Journal ArticleDOI

The mineral chemistry of new titanates from the jagersfontein kimberlite, South Africa: Implications for metasomatism in the upper mantle

TL;DR: New members of the crichtonite mineral series are described in which K, Ba, Ca and REE are in significant concentrations (5 wt% oxides) filling the A formula position in AM21O38 as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental evidence for the role of accessory phases in magma genesis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used trace element data to independently test the experimentally-based petrogenetic models and concluded that residual (or fractionating) accessory phases may have an essential role in controlling the trace element (especially REE) distributions in magmas.

Geochronology of Layered Intrusions

TL;DR: In this paper, an overview of dating methods (U-Th-Pb, 40Ar/39Ar) and mineral chronometers (e.g., zircon, baddeleyite, rutile, apatite, titanite) potentially present in layered intrusions is presented.
