REVIEW ARTICLE Considering the Role of Social Dynamics and Positional Behavior in Gestural Communication Research

TL;DR: For instance, this paper found that social dynamics and positional behavior are critical components that shape the frequency and nature of gesturalsignaling across species, and that understanding these factors could shed light on how gestural communication may have been the basis of human language.

Considering the role of social dynamics and positional behavior in gestural communication research.

TL;DR: It is proposed that social dynamics and positional behavior are critical components that shape the frequency and nature of gestural signaling across species and it is argued that an understanding of these factors could shed light on how gestural communication may have been the basis of human language.

Body language: The interplay between positional behavior and gestural signaling in the genus Pan and its implications for language evolution

TL;DR: The findings reveal that bipedality did not prompt an increase in manual gesturing in these study groups, and body postures and locomotion are intimately tied to many gestures and certain modes of locomotion can be used as gestures themselves.
