The relationship between birth weight and gestational age in an australian hospital population

TLDR
A chart of intrauterine weight, based on data from 2637 patients, is presented together with details of the hospital population and the methods used in selecting the patients.
Abstract
SYNOPSIS The neonate whose birth-weight diverges widely from the average for the period of gestation is subject to special hazards. Acceptable local standards of weight are required to identify these infants at risk. A chart of intrauterine weight, based on data from 2637 patients, is presented together with details of the hospital population and the methods used in selecting the patients. The influence of certain complications during pregnancy is briefly discussed.

Genetic heterogeneity in osteogenesis imperfecta.

TL;DR: An epidemiological and genetical study of osteogenesis imperfecta in Victoria, Australia confirmed that there are at least four distinct syndromes at present called OI, and the largest group of patients showed autosomal dominant inheritance of osteoporosis leading to fractures and distinctly blue sclerae.

Studies of the aetiology of neonatal hepatitis and biliary atresia.

TL;DR: Hypotheses for the aetiology of neonatal hepatitis and of extrahepatic biliary atresia are presented, both of which are considered syndromes with multiple causes.

Fetal growth retardation and pre-eclampsia.

TL;DR: In a series of 2434 patients with pre‐eclampsia, the prevalence of fetal growth retardation was 8.7 per cent compared with 8.6 per cent in the total hospital population, suggesting that fetalgrowth retardation in these pregnancies preceded the clinical signs of pre-eclampia.

Inflammatory lesions of the human placenta. III. The histopathology of villitis of unknown aetiology.

TL;DR: In this article, all placentae delivered in a large obstetrics hospital in a two-year period were examined macroscopically and histologically, showing that chronic focal placental villitis of unknown aetiology (VUE) was found in 575 (7.6 per cent).

Intrauterine growth as estimated from liveborn birth-weight data at 24 to 42 weeks of gestation.

TL;DR: The median weights of Colorado babies were found to be lower at 40 weeks of gestation than the national median, and mean weights at 40 and 42 weeks were lower than those given by other authors.

Birth weight and gestation time in relation to maternal age, parity and infant survival.

TL;DR: Analysis of the data indicated that nonsurvivors were significantly lighter at birth with shorter mean gestation times and older maternal ages than survivors, and when infants who died in the 1st 28 days of life were excluded, the association between birthweight and parity was significant.

Growth of the human fetus: I. Normal growth and its variation

TL;DR: It is suggested that the fetal growth curve during much of the third trimester follows a straight-line course, and it is likely that the normal birth weight curves of various population groups do not differ from one another during the first half of the fourth trimester or somewhat longer.

Evaluation of body and organ weights in perinatal pathology: II. Weight of body and placenta of surviving and of autopsied infants

TL;DR: Normal standards for birth weight of surviving infants, weight at autopsy of infants who died in the perinatal period, and weight of the placenta for both of these groups are presented.
