TLDR
In this paper, the primary winding of a potential transformer is connected across a series capacitor bank to protect it from high current faults and the secondary winding of the potential transformer connected to a thermal analogue device which reproduces the thermal characteristics of the capacitor and operates capacitor switching means when dangerous thermal conditions are reached.Abstract:
A capacitor protection system is provided having the primary winding of a potential transformer connected across a series capacitor bank to be protected and the secondary winding of the potential transformer connected to a thermal analogue device which reproduces the thermal characteristics of the capacitor and operates capacitor switching means when dangerous thermal conditions are reached. An inverse time voltage relay is also connected across the secondary winding to initiate protective capacitor switching responsive to high current faults. The thermal analogue device simulates the internal thermal conditions of the capacitor based on the principle that the power loss in the capacitor is proportional to the square of the voltage across the capacitor. Voltage comparison circuits are also provided between groups of capacitors in banks having multiple groups to detect blown fuses associated with respective capacitor groups.read more

Fabrication of semiconductor devices
TL;DR: In this article, two sources of heat are applied to the fusible elements connected to the selected components to open-circuit the elements, one of the sources comprises the passage of current through the selected elements and the other comprises a general heating of the entire device.

Environmentally insensitive surge suppressor apparatus and method
TL;DR: In this article, a surge suppressor conducts heat from a surge protection component (SSC) through a heat conductive element, such as a copper pad, on a printed circuit board, to at least one thermal fuse, to cause the thermal fuse to open when the resistance of the SSC begins to decrease.

Differential temperature monitoring of electrical devices
TL;DR: In this paper, a method of monitoring temperature in a system, such as a capacitor bank, is disclosed, which may include: receiving first device temperature signals indicative of the temperature of a first device over a predetermined period of time; receiving second device temperature signal indicative of a second device over the same period; and triggering a disconnect event in response to a determination that either the first or second rolling average temperature is greater than a predetermined maximum working temperature.
