PURPOSE:To partially vary the lengthwise elastic modulus E of a maraging steel plate by subjecting the plate to soln. heat treatment and plastic working; holding one side at the soln. heat treatment temp. while cooling the other side;aging the whole plate; and air cooling it.

PURPOSE:To manufacture a maraging steel sheet having high fatigue strength by cold working a maraging steel slab to reduce the thickness, carrying out soln. heat treatment in the latter half of the cold working or after the end of the cold working and soft-nitriding the resulting sheet. CONSTITUTION:When a maraging steel slab is worked into a sheet by cold rolling, soln. heat treatment is carried out at 830 deg.C for 30min in the latter half of the cold rolling or after the end of the cold rolling. The resulting maraging steel sheet is soft-nitrided to manufacture a maraging steel sheet having high strength and toughness. This steel sheet is used as a steel belt used in automatic transmission as one of automobile parts requiring high fatigue strength.
