TLDR
In this paper, the production process and studies for the workability of the flat products are presented, as well as a detailed discussion of the potentials of the spray forming process for other products, e.g. in sheet metals.Abstract:
The production of flat products by spray forming, offers the possibility of the manufacturing of thin semi-finished material with optimized material properties. With the production of such thin slabs or sheet metals the small initial thickness reduces the range of following transforming handling steps. The occurring process-determined porosity, which appears negligible with large volume deposits, as well as problems with the production of a geometry suitable for the subsequent treatment, however obstruct the commercial use of the potentials of the spray forming process for other products, e. g. in sheet metals. The production process and studies for the workability of the flat products are the subject of this paper.read more

Spray Forming of Steels
TL;DR: The main advantage of spray forming over powder metallurgy route is the possibility to eliminate powder handling steps as mentioned in this paper, which not only minimizes the risk of contamination but also results in cost savings.
