TLDR
In this article, a metabase formed from metadata can be used for various data management operations, such as enhanced data management, enhanced data identification, enhanced storage operations, data classification for organizing and storing the metadata, cataloging of metadata for the stored metadata, and/or user interfaces for managing data.Abstract:
Systems and methods for managing electronic data are disclosed. Various data management operations can be performed based on a metabase formed from metadata. Such metadata can be identified from an index of data interactions generated by a journaling module, and obtained from their associated data objects stored in one or more storage devices. In various embodiments, such processing of the index and storing of the metadata can facilitate, for example, enhanced data management operations, enhanced data identification operations, enhanced storage operations, data classification for organizing and storing the metadata, cataloging of metadata for the stored metadata, and/or user interfaces for managing data. In various embodiments, the metabase can be configured in different ways. For example, the metabase can be stored separately from the data objects so as to allow obtaining of information about the data objects without accessing the data objects or a data structure used by a file system.read more

Executing a cloud command for a distributed filesystem
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present techniques for executing a cloud command for a distributed filesystem, where two or more cloud controllers collectively manage distributed filesystem data that is stored in one or more Cloud storage systems; the cloud controllers ensure data consistency for the stored data, and each cloud controller caches portions of the distributed filesystem.

Managing a global namespace for a distributed filesystem
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a global namespace for distributed filesystems, where each cloud controller "owns" a distinct portion of the global namespace and maintains a set of namespace mappings that indicate which portions of the namespace is assigned to each cloud Controller.

Performing anti-virus checks for a distributed filesystem
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors disclose techniques that facilitate the process of performing anti-virus checks for a distributed filesystem, where two or more cloud controllers collectively manage distributed filesystem data, and each cloud controller caches portions of the distributed filesystem.

Distributing data for a distributed filesystem across multiple cloud storage systems
TL;DR: In this article, a distributed filesystem is distributed across multiple cloud storage systems to optimize performance and/or cost for the distributed filesystem, where data stored in the distributed file system can be distributed across two or more cloud storage system to optimize the performance or cost.

Restoring an archived file in a distributed filesystem
TL;DR: In this article, the authors disclose techniques for restoring an archived file in a distributed filesystem, where two or more cloud controllers collectively manage distributed filesystem data that is stored in one or more Cloud storage systems; the cloud controllers ensure data consistency for stored data, and each cloud controller caches portions of the distributed filesystem.

The design and implementation of a log-structured file system
Mendel Rosenblum,John Ousterhout +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a log-structured file system called Sprite LFS is proposed, which uses a segment cleaner to compress the live information from heavily fragmented segments in order to speed up file writing and crash recovery.

Computer system and process for transferring multiple high bandwidth streams of data between multiple storage units and multiple applications in a scalable and reliable manner
TL;DR: In this article, the data is divided into segments and each segment is distributed randomly on one of several storage units, independent of the storage units on which other segments of the media data are stored.

System for backing up files from disk volumes on multiple nodes of a computer network
Douglas L. Whiting,Tom Dilatush +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a system for backuping files from disk volumes on multiple nodes of a computer network to a common random-access backup storage means, where duplicate files (or portions of files) may be identified across nodes, so that only a single copy of the contents of the duplicate files or portions thereof is stored in the backup storage mean.

Systems and methods for backing up data files
Christopher Midgley,John Webb +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a synchronization process that replicates selected source data files data stored on the network and creates a corresponding set of replicated data files, called the target data files that are stored on a back up server.

TL;DR: The type of information in metadata for one type of file differs from the type of metadata for another type of a file as discussed by the authors, and the metadata from files created by several different software applications are captured and the captured metadata is searched.
