The invention discloses a video playing method and apparatus, a video compensation method and apparatus, and a video playing system. The video playing method comprises the steps: according to a video program identifier of a video to be played, acquiring a local video which is pre-stored in the local and conforms to the video program identifier; sending the video program identifier and a video quality index value of the local video to a video server, and requesting a video for compensation and an audio for compensation; receiving the video for compensation and/or the audio for compensation looped back from the video server; and overlaying the video for compensation and/or the audio for compensation in the local video, and playing the local video after compensation. The video playing method can play video with high video quality under lower network bandwidth so as to save the network bandwidth.read more
