Abstract: In 1979 the French Deputy P. Micaux was nominated by the Government to enquire and advise on animal welfare standards in modern farming. In his report which was published last year, many welfare problems related to transport of farm animals were recognised (Table 1). Most of these problems could be solved by the strict application of the existing legislation and a better co-ordination between the different administrative bodies in charge of transport regulations in France, but there still remained a need for more information on vehicle designs, stocking densities, animal handling conditions and other factors relative to the knowledge of physiological and behavioural needs of farm animals (Table 2).

TL;DR: For instance, this paper found evidence of a more decentered and generalized view in which animal capabilities were differentiated from those of human beings, and that young children's beliefs about animals would be egocentric and subjective.
Abstract: Thirty-seven kindergarten children were interviewed regarding their contact with, knowledge of, and beliefs about animals. The principal expectation of the study, that young children's beliefs about animals would be egocentric and subjective was confirmed. There was also evidence of the beginnings of a more decentered and generalized view in which animal capabilities were differentiated from those of human beings.

TL;DR: The behaviour of cattle during transportation and the associated handling and penning procedures is reviewed in this paper, where the available transport data come almost exclusively from rail as distinct from road travel.
Abstract: The behaviour of cattle during transportation and the associated handling and penning procedures is reviewed. The activities of cattle during transportation include heightened activity immediately after loading and characteristic standing and lying behaviour in moving and stationary vehicles. The available transport data come almost exclusively from rail as distinct from road travel. During the handling of cattle, certain characteristic behavioural patterns are also displayed. These are identified and their influence on personnel and relevance to animal welfare discussed. The available information on behaviour in lairage before slaughter concerns the problems of mixed penning and horned cattle, and also feeding and resting behaviour.

TL;DR: In America and elsewhere the enduring recognition of the qhuman-animal bondq is flourishing in a new light but one that has flickered for eons as discussed by the authors, and animal companions are our partners in health.
Abstract: Seemingly all of a sudden, animal companions are our partners in health! Not just as carcasses to be chipped and chunked, fileted and skewered to fill our gullet, or to be stripped, tanned, and polished to adorn our egos and provide treads. Rather now as seltzers and herbs to soothe man's soul and invigorate his heart and mind. In America and elsewhere the enduring recognition of the qhuman-animal bondq is flourishing in a new light but one that has flickered for eons.
