Abstract: A coating composition comprising (A) partially hydrolyzed silicon compounds, (B) an acrylic copolymer and/or a polyol and optionally (C) an etherified methylolmelamine, which is useful for improving the surface properties, such as surface hardness and chemical resistance, of plastics products, wooden products, metallic products, etc. by coating the products therewith, said products being optionally previously under-coated with an under coating composition comprising a copolymer of vinyl monomers and optionally other copolymerizable monomer(s), by which the adhesion between the coating film and the base material is improved to give a formed article having excellent properties, such as surface hardness, abrasion resistance, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain magnet composition wherein magnetic powder is tightly filled and whose shock resistance and performance are excellent by adding a specified amount of pretreated magnetic powder and either of polyacrylate resin or polyamide resin. CONSTITUTION:Powdered polyphenylene sulfide resin has a benzene ring which is a crystalline aromatic polymer and whose para is replaced and the symmetric main chain comprising a repetitive unit of sulfur atoms. The magnetic powder is prepared by pretreating the powder of a magnetic material which can be powdered to the shape of, for example, about several mu with the desirable 0.005-3wt% of a titanate surface treating agent. To the 100pts.wt of said powdered polyphenylene sulfide resin, are added the desirable weight parts of either of polyacrylate resin or polyamide resin and the desirable 83-90wt% of the magnetic powder. In this method, is obtained the composite material having excellent forming feature, shock resistance, heat resistance, chemical resistance, fire resistance, and high magnetism.

Abstract: Provess for improving the chemical resistance of copolyesters derived from aromatic dicarboxylic acids, certain substituted aromatic diols and, optionally, aromatic hydroxy acids. The process involves treating shaped objects made from the aromatic polyesters by subjecting them to a temperature sufficient to raise the surface temperature thereof to at least 275° C. and preferably 300° C. in air or other oxygen-containing atmospheres.

CONSTITUTION: (A) 79W20pts.wt. of a radically polymerizable water-soluble monomer is aqueous emulsion-polymerized in an aqueous solution containing (B) 1W30pts.wt. of maleinized polyisoprene, acid value about 20W350, prepared by adding a maleic acid compound such as maleic anhydride to polyisoprene, viscosity- average MW about 5,000W150,000, and (C) 20W50pts.wt. of a polymerizable water-soluble resin, acid value about 30W300, selected from the group consisting of a water-soluble acrylic resin, a water-soluble maleinized oil and a water-soluble alkyd resin. Said high molecular compound B enhances the water resistance and chemical resistance of films, and the resin C enhances pigment dispersibility. Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a new puttylike material having excellent long-term shelf stability and photo-curability and giving a cured product having excellent mechanical strength, chemical resistance, etc., by kneading a photo-curable resin composition comprising a specific prepolymer and a photosensitizer, together with a light- transmitting filler. CONSTITUTION:(A) A photo-curable resin composition comprising (a) a prepolymer having two or more polymerizable unsaturated groups in the molecule [e.g. a condensate of an oligoester polyol with (meth)acrylic acid, etc.], (b) a photosensitizer, e.g. benzoin ethyl ether, etc., and if necessary (c) monomers, e.g. ethylene dimethacrylate, etc., is kneaded together with (B) one or more light-transmitting fillers selected from quartz powder, glass powder, silica powder and mica powder, to give the desired material. The amount of (B) is e.g. 300 phr on the pasis of that of (A).

Abstract: Glass contains (in wt %) SiO2 65-75, Al2O3, 0.1-2.5 Si2O 0.0-3.0 (pref. 0.3-1), Na2O 7-15, K2O 9-10 (pref. 1-4) MgO 0-8 (pref. 1-6), CaO 2-12, ZnO 0.2-3, BeO, 1-6 PbO 0-10 (pref. 1-4) and TiO2 0.2-5. The increased Na2O content (compared to H2O) facilitates the mfr. of glass articles without reducing their chemical resistance.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a crosslinked aromatic polyester having excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance, light resistance, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, etc., by extruding a linear aromatic polyester and an imide compound under melting conditions, and crosslinking the extrusion molded product. CONSTITUTION:A composition composed of (A) 100 parts by weight of a linear aromatic polyester wherein >=70 mol% of the acid component is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, and >=70 mol% of the glycol component is ethylene glycol, and (B) 0.1-4.5 parts by weight of an imide compound having one or more imide group of the formula (R1,2 are H, an organic group having no ester-forming functional group) such as phenyl maleimide, 4, 4'-diphenylmethane bismaleimide, etc., is extruded under melt, and the extrudate is crosslinked.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare an epoxy resin composition having improved low-temperature curability, acid resistance and water resistance, and giving the coatings having improved adherence and wet-on-wet coating processability, by adding a hydroxyl group-containing aromatic resin and an isocyanate hardener to a hydroxyl group- containing epoxy resin. CONSTITUTION:A new epoxy resin composition comprising (A) a hydroxyl group- containing aromatic resin having a hydroxyl value of 25 - 150 (e.g. copolymer of styrene with phenol), (B) a polyol comprsing an epoxy resin having two or more hydroxyl groups, or its derivative and (C) an isocyanate hardener (e.g. 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate). The preferable compounding ratio of (A) - (C) is 60 - 5 wt.%, 40 - 95 wt.% and 0.3 - 1.5 equivalent of isocyanate group (on the bais of 1 equivalent of hydroxyl group), respectively. EFFECT:The excellent characteristics of epoxy resins, particularly of chemical resistance and oil resistance, are not lowered.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a two-pack type polyurethane composition useful for corrosionresistant paints, having improved low-temperature curability and stability and giving coating films having excellent chemical resistance, by compounding a specific alpha-glycol resin with a polyisocyanate. CONSTITUTION:A polyurethane coating composition comprising (A) an alpha-glycol resin I [A is -CH2-. -CR1R2- or -SO2-; R is H or CH3; R1 and R2 are H or alkyl; X1-8 are H, Cl or Br; T1 and T2 are H, II or III (Y1 and Y2 are OH, Cl or Br); n is 0-30] wherein >=90% of the whole terminal group (T1 + T2) is alpha-glycol group II, and (B) a polyisocyanate compound having two or more isocyanate groups in the molecule, e.g. tolylene diisocyanate, etc. EFFECT:Excellent in water resisting property and adherence. The modification of the resin is not necessary.

CONSTITUTION:To 100 parts by wt of a saturated aromatic polyester that has an intrinsic viscosity of more than 0.4 measured in o-chlorophenol at 35 deg.C and contains 70 mol% of aromatic dicarboxylic acids as the acid component are added 0.1- 50 parts of a polyallyl compound that has at least two of unsubtd, or subtd. ally groups shown as the formula (R1-3 are same or different H, or organic radicals) and does not decompose under conditions of melt blending and is inert with the polyester and they are kneaded with a kneader at a temperature from the melting point to about 60 deg.C higher.

CONSTITUTION:An aqueous coating compound consisting mainly of a mixture prepared by incorporating (A) 100 parts by wt. of a blend, obtained from (a) 100 parts by wt. of hydroxyl group-containing polycoaboxylic acid-typy resin having an acid value of 20-100 and a hydroxyl number of 20-200 and (b) 5-70 parts by wt. of a water-soluble amino resin, with (B) 20-200 parts by wt. of a polyether-polyol of the formuala and water is adjusted to a non-volatile content >= 70 wt. % and viscosity >= of 300-3,000 cp., and applied to an arnicle. If the acid value of the polycarboxylic acid-type resin is 100 and the hydroxyl number is > 200, the water and chemical resistance of the film are undersirably lowered.

Abstract: PURPOSE:Aromatic composite films that are produced by coating films of polyarylenepolyetherpolysulfon resin or polyarylate resin with an epoxy rein, thus beig excellent in heat and chemical resistance. CONSTITUTION:Films of polyarylenepolyetherpolysulfone resin or plyarylate resin is coated with an epoxy resin bearing 2 or more N,N-diglycidylamino groups. The polyarylate means aromatic polyesters derived from dihydric phenols or their functional derivatives and aromatic dibasic acids or their functional derivatives. The epoxy resin used is, e.g., N,N,N',N'-tetraglycidylaminodiphenylmethane or N,N,N',N'-tetraglycidyl-m-xylylenediamine.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the title adhesive having improved adhesivity to aromatic polyamide paper, while keeping the high heat resistance and chemical resistance of the base resin, by adding a specific adhesion assistant to an adhesive having excellent heat resistance and chemical resistance. CONSTITUTION:The title adhesive composition is prepared by adding (A) about 5wt% of an adhesion assistant obtained by dissolving an unsaturating amount of LiCl2 in an amine solvent such as dimethyl formamide, to (B) an epoxy resin adhesive having high heat resistance and chemical resistance. EFFECT:The bonded structure thus obtained has high heat resistance and chemical resistance, and useful as an insulator of various electrical appliances.

CONSTITUTION:Chitin powder is dissolved in a mixed solvent comprising 20-70 wt.% of trichloroacetin acid and 80-30 wt.% of a halogenated hydrocarbon, e.g. dichloromethane, etc., at -5-+30 deg.C, preferably at 0-25 deg.C. EFFECT:The films and fibers prepared from the chitin solution colorless and transparent, and have excellent chemical resistance and heat resistance. USE:Food-packaging films, recording tape films, reverse osmosis membranes, etc.
