Abstract: Buckley: the modem open systems approach. According to Buckley there are definite differences between the mechanical, biologicaland complex adaptive systems of which society is one, and it is not possible to use the mechanical and biological systems as a model to analyse complex adaptive systems. The complex adaptive system can be distinguished from the other systems especially on the grounds of its own distinctive organization. This organization is distinctive in as much that the components of the socio-cultural system are intricate, unstable and continually subject to change. It maintains an exchange relationship with the environment which is essential for the viability, maintenance, change, and elaboration of the system. The relationship between the components is based on communication of information which leads to degrees of freedom in the relations among the components.
