Abstract: In-plane dynamic racking crescendo tests were performed on full-scale curtain wall mock-ups dry glazed with six different insulating glass unit (IGU) configurations and one laminated glass unit configuration. The tests were conducted to determine the serviceability and ultimate limit state behaviors of these configurations tested under simulated earthquake-induced lateral drifts. All IGU configurations tested were manufactured with an annealed monolithic pane and a laminated pane with an argon fill and an anodized aluminum spacer between the panes. Several parameters were varied in the laminated pane of each configuration including glass lite thickness and glass type in the laminated pane (annealed, heat strengthened, and fully tempered), and PVB interlayer thickness for the laminated pane. Properties of the annealed inside pane were not varied. For each configuration, average drift values for the occurrence of glass cracking in each IGU pane, glass fallout from the monolithic pane, and pullout and fallout of the entire glass unit are reported. Relevant damage to the aluminum framing is also reported. Results of these tests can be used to assess the seismic resistance of similarly glazed architectural glass panels in practice and to improve the design of asymmetric IGU configurations for use in seismic regions.

Abstract: Described herein is a curtain wall system for multi-story buildings that is highly resistant to the damage caused by multidirectional swaying motions in building frames during an earthquake. In a conventional curtain wall system, each story is connected structurally to the stories above and/or below it. Earthquake-induced swaying motions of the building frame cause significant load transfers from story to story and cause such a conventional curtain wall system to be susceptible to earthquake damage. Not only does this damage necessitate expensive repairs, but serious threats to life safety are imposed when debris falls from a damaged wall system. In contrast, each story of the earthquake-immune curtain wall system is structurally isolated (i.e., decoupled) from adjacent stories, which produces the beneficial effects of minimizing wall system damage and the attendant risks of falling debris (in the forms of broken glass, stone, concrete, etc.) during an earthquake.

Each bench has associated with it a respective air handling system for conditioning including a duct which is located partly under the respective bench and a fan in a fan housing at the side wall. From the fan a vertical duct section extends to a flexible tube extending over the bench. An alley is arranged along the opposite wall containing electrical controls mounted in cabinets forming panels for mounting in the span between posts. Air dehumidification, fogging, heating and cooling are provided in the duct under the bench.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scaffolding supporting structure for a curtain wall, which prevents damage to designability, and makes the execution of work efficient by enabling work for fitting a pane of glass, etc., without reference to a scaffolding supporting bolt and without leaving an unconstructed part in accordance with ordinary execution procedures. SOLUTION: In a curtain wall structure in which a sleeve joint material 23 is inserted astride a hollow part 2A of an upper step side mullion 2U and a hollow part 2A of a lower step side mullion 2L in the connecting part of mullions 2 and 2 which are arranged in series in a longitudinal direction, a space S, into which at least a scaffolding supporting bolt 12 can be inserted, is formed between the upper and lower mullions 2 and 2 in the connecting part of the mullions 2 and 2, and the bolt 12, which is inserted from the side of the outdoor surface of the curtain wall, is detachably coupled to the joint material 23.
