Abstract: The cercaria and sporocyst of Bucephaloides gracilescens are described from Abra alba (Wood). Observations were made on the behaviour of the cercaria and the mechanism of release from the first intermediate host. The metacercaria was obtained experimentally for the first time using Ciliata mustela (L.), a species of Gadidae from rock pools, as second intermediate host. It has not previously been recorded from this fish. Unsuccessful attempts were made to infect species of fishes from three other families, namely, Bothidae, Pleuronectidae and Gobiidae, confirming the high degree of host specificity of the metacercaria to Gadidae. The metacercaria, its development and effect on the host are briefly discussed. It was linked with the adult on the basis of comparative morphology and ecology of the hosts.

Abstract: Two-hundred and nine fish of 13 species from Laurel Creek, Ontario, were examined for parasites between May and October 1973. Eighty-four species of parasites (22 of Protozoa, 24 of Monogenea, 17 of Digenea, 11 of Cestoda, 4 of Nematoda, 1 of Hirudinea, 1 of glochidia, and 4 of Crustacea) were collected and are listed and discussed.

Abstract: In 224 fish of nine species from Matamek River system 38 genera of parasites were recovered (12 Protozoa, 3 Monogenea, 6 Digenea, 6 Cestoda, 6 Nematoda, 2 Acanthocephala, 3 Copepoda). Six genera of parasites were noted in Salmo salar, Salvelinus fontinalis harbored 17 genera, S. alpinus 5 genera, Osmerus mordax 4 genera, Anguilla rostrata 9 genera, Catostomus catostomus 8 genera, Apeltes quadracus 1 genus, Gasterosteus aculeatus 12 genera, and Pungitius pungitius 9 genera.

Abstract: Seven hundred and twenty-eight fish of five species (cyprinodonts and gasterosteids) from four locations on the west coast of insular Newfoundland were examined for metazoan parasites, using conventional parasitological techniques. -- Eleven genera of parasites were recovered (two Monogenea, four Digenea, two Cestoda, one Acanthocephala, two parasitic Crustacea). Six genera of parasites were recorded from Fundulus heteroclitus, 1 genus from E. diaphanus, 5 genera from Pungitius pungitius, 7 genera from Gasterosteus aculeatus and 4 genera from Apeltes quadracus. Two Canadian records, 2 Newfoundland records and 3 host records were noted. -- It was found that the parasite burden of F. heteroclitus was not homogenous for sample areas, sex of host (Monogenea), and length of host (Gyrodactylus prolongis, G. stephanus, Urocleidus angularis, Homalometron pallidum and Proteocephalus sp.). Significant differences in the preferred site of attachment of the three species of Monogenea were noted. Seasonal variations in incidence and intensity were noted for all parasite species of F. heteroclitus. No seasonal differences in length of worms and fecundity were observed. -- Seasonal cycles were related to seasonal variations in selected environmental factors, and possible changes in host diet and physiology. -- Significant differences in the occurrence of particular species of parasites in cyprinodonts and gasterosteids were noted.
