TL;DR: An improved method for plating super abrasive materials onto the working portion of a honing tool, which method includes plating or otherwise coating a relatively thin layer of a composite material comprising a metal or metal alloy material having a friction reducing or lubricating type material occluded or otherwise associated therewith over the top of the bond already established between the abrasive particles and the working part of the tool, is presented in this article.
Abstract: An improved method for plating super abrasive materials onto the working portion of a honing tool, which method includes plating or otherwise coating a relatively thin layer of a composite material comprising a metal or metal alloy material having a friction reducing or lubricating type material occluded or otherwise associated therewith over the top of the bond already established between the abrasive particles and the working portion of the honing tool so as to substantially reduce and minimize the occurrence of having stock material build-up and collect between the abrasive particles, which stock build-up causes galling or scoring of the honed work surface during a honing operation. In the preferred embodiment, the composite material comprising the anti-galling coating surface is a nickel/phosphorous alloy material having micron-sized Teflon particles occluded therein. The present method substantially increases the quality of the finished work product as well as the overall service life of the honing tool itself. An improved honing tool construction is also produced through usage of the present method.

TL;DR: In this article, a measuring station (Wn-1) is attached to a measuring and control device (19) which determines deviations of the workpiece size from the desired size and analyses them for the subsequent control of individual working stations (W1 to Wn-2), in particular for the re-adjustment of individual tools.
Abstract: The machine, especially a honing machine, has several working stations (W1 to Wn-2) in which workpieces can be worked or honed simultaneously. By transfer in timed sequence, each workpiece can pass in succession through all stations (W1 to Wn-2) so that it is worked gradually first of all to intermediate sizes and in the final working station to finished size. So that the working operations can be corrected, for example to re-adjust the tools for wear compensation, a common measuring station (Wn-1) is provided for all working stations (W1 to Wn-2), into which measuring station (Wn-1) the workpieces, after interruption of a work cycle, can be moved in succession in a measuring cycle. Attached to the measuring station (Wn-1) is a measuring and control device (19) which determines the deviations of the workpiece size from the desired size and analyses them for the subsequent control of the individual working stations (W1 to Wn-2), in particular for the re-adjustment of the individual tools.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method to hone two or more aligned bore holes which are provided inside a workpiece and are connected to one another, in which the bore holes (2 and 3) are honed in successive working steps, the honing tool (5) working with short honing sticks (6) in one bore and being guided with guide sections (9, 10) in another bore (3 or 2).
Abstract: of EP0549821The procedure serves to hone two or more aligned bore holes which are provided inside a workpiece and are connected to one another. If such bore holes are worked simultaneously with a single honing tool, geometrical inaccuracies occur if correspondingly long honing sticks are used and dimensional inaccuracies as a result of different wear occur if two sets of honing sticks arranged one above the other are used. These disadvantages are avoided with the procedure according to the invention, in which the bore holes (2 and 3) are honed in successive working steps, the honing tool (5) working with short honing sticks (6) in one bore (2 or 3) and being guided with guide sections (9; 10) in another bore (3 or 2).

TL;DR: The surface finish of the internal cylinder wall of an internal combustion engine is produced by honing the surface and then after applying a sealing composition 14 to the surface to at least partially fill the valleys 12 left in the surface by the honing operation as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The surface finish of the internal cylinder wall of an internal combustion engine is produced by honing the surface and then after honing applying a sealing composition 14 to the surface to at least partially fill the valleys 12 left in the surface by the honing operation. After the sealing composition has set, pistons with piston rings are assembled in the cylinders and the engine is then run. Peaks 16 will then be removed by the rubbing action of the piston rings. By coating the surface in this way, oil consumption is reduced, which in turn leads to a reduction in engine emissions.

TL;DR: In this article, a tubular sleeve spring is used to push the leading end of the spring against the feedup rod and the bias is taken off the cutting stone, so that the diameter of the bore being measured can be measured.
Abstract: A honing tool operated by a common motor or a drill while the part being honed is held by a common vice. A spring is positioned within a tubular sleeve member that is aligned with a boss member formed on the trailing end of a conventional housing for a conventional feedup rod. The leading end of the spring bears against the trailing end of the feedup rod and urges it continuously forwardly so that honing continues for as long as the spring is allowed to bear against the feedup rod. The honing operation can be stopped at any time by pulling back on a ring member that causes the spring to be compressed when pulled back. When the spring is compressed, the bias is taken off the feedup rod and hence the cutting stone, so that the diameter of the bore being honed can be measured. In a second embodiment, the final position of the ring member is marked at the conclusion of a honing operation that is to be repeated and a stop member is set so that subsequent honing operations conclude when the ring member attains the final position and is stopped by the stop member.

Abstract: not available for EP0424419Abstract of corresponding document: WO9000462A honing device (1) which can be mounted on a conventional machine-tool (for example, parallel lathe, milling machine, boring machine) comprises a spindle (2) which rotates about an axis (AA') and which carries an abrasive element (3) mounted so as to move at least in a radial direction with respect to the axis of rotation (AA') of the spindle (2). At least one governor weight (4) mounted on an articulated frame (ABCDEF) connected to said abrasive element (3) and entrained in rotation by said spindle (2) is acted on by a centrifugal force when the spindle (2) rotates. The centrifugal force tends to move the governor weight (4) at least in a radial direction with respect to the axis (AA'). TL;DR: In this paper, instead of performing the descaling by pickling as the pretreatment of cold rolling process, the descaled by cleaning with the abrasive grain for polishing is performed.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain good surface quality without the generation of uneven brightness by casting into the cast piece of thin band-like with a continuous casting machine and performing descaling by cleaning with an abrasive grain for polishing as the pretreatment of cold rolling process. CONSTITUTION:Instead of performing the descaling by pickling as the pretreatment of cold rolling process, the descaling by cleaning with the abrasive grain for polishing is performed. Intergranular corrosion groove due to the precipitation of Cr carbide which is the cause of the uneven brightness is not generated. And the ruggedness on the surface of cast piece is made further uniform by intensifying the removement of scale and it contributes to the improvement of surface nature. That method is effective to also chromium type stainless steel in addition to austenite type stainless steel. As the descaling method by cleaning with abrasive grain for polishing, liquid honing, belt grinding, grit blasting and brush containing abrasive grain, etc., are used. Thereby, uneven brightness after cold rolling isn't generated and the stainless steel sheet of good surface quality can be obtained.
