TL;DR: Although resolution can be improved in this fashion, the step-edge position and intensity estimates thus determined may be subject to systematic biases and the higher resolution performance is accompanied by lower robustness to noise.
Abstract: Most step-edge detectors are designed to detect locally straight edge-segments which can be isolated within the operator kernel. While it can easily be demonstrated that a cross-sectional support of at least 4 pixels is required for the unambiguous detection of a stepedge, edges which cannot be isolated within windows having this width can nevertheless be resolved. This is achieved by preceding the stepedge detection process by image-intensity interpolation. Although resolution can be improved in this fashion, the step-edge position and intensity estimates thus determined may be subject to systematic biases. Also, the higher resolution performance is accompanied by lower robustness to noise.

TL;DR: In this article, an image processing system capable of image enlargement and reduction is described, where interpolation data is stored in memory in the form of look-up tables for producing image data interpolating between adjacent pixels.
Abstract: An image processing system capable of image enlargement and reduction. Interpolation data is stored in memory in the form of look-up tables for producing image data interpolating between adjacent pixels. The interpolation is carried out based on a selection signal determined in accordance with the designated magnification. The stored interpolation data has a plurality of data tables having distinctive conversion characteristics. A particular data table can be selected in accordance with a property of the original image.

TL;DR: In this article, the interpolation data is provided to compensate a gap in data between pixels in the entire image data and the interpolations are produced based on the selection signals which are outputted in accordance with the designated scale ratio.
Abstract: The present invention provides the high-quality enlarged or reduced image by employing a simple circuit configuration which incorporates interpolation method. For this purpose, the system of the invention is so consituted that the interpolation data is provided to compensate a gap in data between pixels in the entire image data and that the interpolation data are produced based on the interpolation data selection signals which are outputted in accordance with the designated scale ratio.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for displaying three-dimensional surface structures according to computer graphics methods extracts a surface definition from a tomographic array of data using interpolation of the data for smooth, high resolution images.
Abstract: A system for displaying three-dimensional surface structures according to computer graphics methods extracts a surface definition from a tomographic array of data using interpolation of the data for smooth, high resolution images. Interpolation can be performed to a degree where artifact-free images are produced for all viewing orientations. Data-processing capacity and time requirements can be reduced with less interpolation while image quality is maintained for all viewing orientations by inspecting the viewing orientation and appropriately scaling the image.

TL;DR: In this paper, an image interpolation part is proposed to improve the accuracy of a histogram in a frequency direction by using the sample of an original signal series as well as a sample generated by interpolating the former sample.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of a histogram in a frequency direction by using the sample of an original signal series as well as a sample generated by interpolating the former sample. CONSTITUTION:An image interpolation part 21 inputs an input image 110 stored in an image memory 11 and interpolates said image, whereby more images than the sample number of input images are generated, and the generated and interpolated images are outputted to a histogram calculation part 22. It inputs the interpolated images, and outputs an enlarged histogram 130 to a histogram storage memory. Thus a ratio of the total sample number to a level number that a signal value can take can be doubled, and the accuracy of the histogram in the frequency direction can be improved accordingly.
