Abstract: As the number of elderly Americans continues to grow, increased attention is being focused on the field of long term care. This article discusses a variety of recent legal developments affecting providers of long term care, specifically skilled and intermediate level nursing homes. These developments include pending federal legislative initiatives, recent administrative agency decisions from the federal Health Care Financing Administration related to reimbursement and quality of care, and private sector initiatives in the development of long term care insurance. Finally, the article discusses a number of recent judicial decisions of importance to long term care providers.
