Abstract: This paper describes an automatic pursuit routing capability necessary for a public land mobile network because mobile stations move freely through service areas. The purpose of pursuit routing is to automatically deliver calls to the called mobile station through the best route. Callers can dial without knowing the actual location of the called mobile station. Automatic pursuit routing requires three logical functions of the mobile communication control center (MCC): the gateway MCC, the home MCC, and the visited MCC. The charging method, numbering plan, and the signaling architecture for implementation are also described, and the effects of the APR and the MCC logical function capabilities are discussed.
