Abstract: Device models are electrical equivalents or mathematical relationships which describe physical devices. A computer-aided circuit design or analysis can only operate with models, but the actual circuit is built with real devices. One of the major problems confronting the analysis program user is the choice of suitable device models. The preparation of data for any such program is, in fact, an exercise in device model selection. In this article we examine some models and modelling techniques which have proved useful, and indicate some methods of acquiring the necessary model data.
