Abstract: We examine the effects of mixed sampling frequencies and temporal aggregation on standard tests for cointegration. While it is well known that aggregation and sampling frequency do not affect the long-run properties of time series, we find that the effects of aggregation on the size of the tests may be severe. Matching sampling schemes of all series generally reduces size, and the nominal size is obtained when all series are skip-sampled in the same way – e.g., end-of-period sampling. When matching all schemes is not feasible, the size of the likelihood-based trace test may be improved by using a mixed-frequency model rather than an aggregated model. However, a mixedfrequency strategy may not improve the size distortion of residual-based cointegration tests compared to aggregated series. We test stock prices and dividends for cointegration as an empirical demonstration of the size distortion.

TL;DR: The Brownian motion of simple model particles based on short-range interactions in water by the molecular dynamics method is examined and it is shown that the diffusion coefficient can vary with mass when this mass is comparable to that of the solvent molecules, and that this effect is evident when the solute particle size is sufficiently small.
Abstract: The Brownian motion of a particle in a fluid is often described by the linear Langevin equation, in which it is assumed that the mass of the particle is sufficiently large compared to the surrounding fluid molecules. This assumption leads to a diffusion coefficient that is independent of the particle mass. The Stokes-Einstein equation indicates that the diffusion coefficient depends solely on the particle size, but the concept of size can be ambiguous when close to the molecular scale. We first examine the Brownian motion of simple model particles based on short-range interactions in water by the molecular dynamics method and show that the diffusion coefficient can vary with mass when this mass is comparable to that of the solvent molecules, and that this effect is evident when the solute particle size is sufficiently small. We then examine the properties of a water molecule considered as a solute in the bulk solvent consisting of the remainder of the water. A comparison with simple solute models is used to clarify the role of force fields. The long-range Coulomb interaction between water molecules is found to lead to a Gaussian force distribution in spite of a mass ratio and nominal size ratio of unity, such that solutes with short-range interactions exhibit non-Gaussian force distribution. Thus, the range of the interaction distance determines the effective size even if it does not represent the volume excluded by the repulsive force field.

TL;DR: In this article, a method of manufacturing an aircraft part for an assembly includes creating a 3D geometry model for an aircraft component having surface features and holes represented by the 3D geometrical model and sized to nominal dimensions.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an aircraft part for an assembly includes creating a 3D geometry model for an aircraft part having surface features and holes represented by the 3D geometry model and sized to nominal dimensions. The method includes generating a NC machining program directly from the 3D geometry model, with instructions for a single NC machining apparatus to machine the aircraft part, and including instructions to machine the holes to nominal. And the method includes machining the aircraft part utilizing the NC machining program. For this, the NC machining apparatus utilizes a hole-forming tool set at substantially the nominal, instead of at a high or low side of a related hole-diameter tolerance range to allow for tight geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements, whereby the holes are machined to substantially the nominal. This method enables the full process capability of the CNC machines while utilizing inspection tolerances that are measureable.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for data storage includes preparing first data having a first size for storage in a memory device that stores data having nominal size larger than the first size, by programming a group of memory cells to multiple predefined levels using a one-pass program-and-verify scheme.
Abstract: A method for data storage includes preparing first data having a first size for storage in a memory device that stores data having a nominal size larger than the first size, by programming a group of memory cells to multiple predefined levels using a one-pass program-and-verify scheme. The first data is combined with dummy data to produce first combined data having the nominal size, and is sent to the memory device for storage in the group. The dummy data is chosen to limit the levels to which the memory cells in the group are programmed to a partial subset of the predefined levels. In response to identifying second data to be stored in the group, the second data is combined with the first data to obtain second combined data having the nominal size, and is sent to the memory device for storage, in place, in the group.

TL;DR: This paper found that trade-size clustering is evident for index futures contracts traded on TAIFEX, showing that informed traders fagment their trades into medium-size rounded trades to disguise their activities and protect their information advantage.
Abstract: Trade-size clustering means trade sizes tend to occur on multiples of 5 and 10 lots Thisstudy finds that trade-size clustering is evident for thee index futures contracts traded on TAIFEX.The main findings for determinants of trade-size clustering are as following:Firstly, rounded sizetrades are more likely to occur for medium-size orders, the period surrounding opening, and previoustrades are rounded size trades.Additionally, rounded size trades, especially medium-size roundedtrades, have higher price impact then unrouned size trades. The above phcnomenon is moresigmeficant during the release of financial reports and the opening period on TAIFEX,showing thatinformed traders fagment their trades into medium-size rounded trades to disguise their activities andprotect their information advantage,Secondly,a trade is more likely to berounded in size when theprice is low and trade size exceeds the best quoled depth.Itmeans that traders with desire to havetrades executed quickly tend to use rounded trades.Thirdly, rounded trades decrease as futurescontracts approach expiration, perhaps caused by offsetting and rolling trades,Fially, rounded sizetrades tend to individuals trade when their sentiment is high.
