Abstract: The fourth performs some of the numerical operations involved in converting the floating decimal values of the boundary conditions to fixed point and supplies the floating decimal arithmetic routines required by the fifth part, the normalizing output of the compiler. Parts 6 and 7 are the differential equation solver and the Y'-evaluator. When the solution has been terminated , either by one of the tests built into the differential equation solver, by external intervention, or by some concentration value exceeding its maximum value, the eighth part determines if another solution is to be begun (in which case it returns to a memory dump of the second part) or if the series is over. The ninth part is an editing routine to provide graph output if desired. An immediate monitoring subroutine is built into the differential equation solver, which permits sampling the concentratio, value of up to three chemicals. It is possible, in the course of solving the differential equations, to interrupt the solution and change the value of one or more concentrations, after which the solution is resumed. This usually corresponds to the addition of another reagent in the course of an experiment (however, this feature was originally provided to permit representing the contraction of a muscle). In practice this is usually done when the monitored concentrations of chemicals have reached a pattern of values representing a metabolic \"steady state\". The overall program has been checked for validity by testing it with a suitable problem (the one-enzyme system) for which the solution is accurately known; computed values of the concentrations were accurate to about .1 percent [9].
