Abstract: The invention concerns flexible compositions free of elastomeric fractions comprising: A) 10 to 90 parts by weight of statistic propylene polymer and of at least one comonomer selected among ethylene and C1-C4 alpha-olefins having a melting point not less than 100 °C and not more than 140 °C and a melt index measured at 230 °C under a load of 2.16 kg (ASTM D 1238 standard, 1986) of 0.5 to 15 g/10 min; and B) 90 to 10 parts by weight of plastomer produced by the intervention of a metallocene catalyst and consisting of a statistic ethylene copolymer and of at least a C3-C10 alpha-olefin having a density of 0.860 to 0.920 g/cm3, a melt index in melted state measured at 190 °C under a load of 2.16 kg (ASTM D 1238 standard, 1986) from 0.5 to 30 g/10 min and a molecular mass distribution M?w?/Mn not less than 4. Said exhibit excellent compromise between flexibility and cold impact resistance and temperature resistance. They are suited for producing shaped flexible articles, and more particularly, for making, by extrusion, films, flexible sheets and cables.

TL;DR: In this article, semi-interpenetrating networks (semi-IPNs) were prepared from natural rubber (NR) and polystyrene (PS) by the sequential method.
Abstract: Semi-interpenetrating networks (semi-IPNs) were prepared from natural rubber (NR) and polystyrene (PS) by the sequential method. In these semi-IPNs the NR phase was crosslinked while the PS phase was uncrosslinked. Different initiating systems such as dicumyl peroxide (DCP), benzoyl peroxide (BPO), and the azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) system were used for polymerizing the PS phase. The blend ratio was varied by controlling the swelling of NR in the styrene monomer. The mechanical properties of the semi-IPNs, namely, density, tensile strength, tear strength, elongation at break, tension set, tensile set, impact strength, and hardness, were determined. The morphology of different IPNs was studied using scanning electron microscopy. A compact morphology with a homogeneous phase distribution was observed in the semi-IPNs. The properties of the semi-IPN do not change much with the initiating system. However, in most cases, the DCP initiating system showed slightly superior performance. The tensile and tear-strength values of the IPNs were found to increase with increasing plastomer content. The crosslink density of the semi-IPNs also increased with increase in the polystyrene content. The experimental values were compared with theoretical models such as series, parallel, Halpin Tsai, Coran, Takayanaki, Kerner, and Kunori. The tensile and tear-fracture surfaces were examined using a scanning electron microscope. The fracture patterns were correlated with the strength and nature of the failure. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 78: 2327–2344, 2000

TL;DR: In this article, a support base material made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resins is used as a flexible and stress-relaxing material for first-aid adhesives.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical adhesive sheet and a first-aid adhesive plaster which use a support base material with an appropriate flexibility and stress relieving property and a good feeling as a substitute for a support base material made from a polyvinyl chloride resin, and which are adapted for bonding to a flexural part such as the knee. SOLUTION: A film for a support base material is molded containing 10 to 200 pts.wt. of a silicic acid compound such as zeolite or talc for 100 pts.wt. of a thermoplastic resin, such as polypropylene resin, a blend of polypropylene resin and an elastomer and/or plastomer, or a copolymer of polypropylene resin, an elastomer and/or plastomer. The film is used as a support base material and an adhesive layer made of an acrylic adhesive is provided on the support base material to obtain a medical adhesive tape or sheet. Further, a liquid- absorbing pad is provided in the central region of the surface of the adhesive layer to obtain a first-aid adhesive plaster.
