TL;DR: Altmaier and Hanson as mentioned in this paper reviewed the book, Helping Students Manage Stress: New Directions for Student Services, No. 21, March 1983 edited by Elizabeth M. Altmaier, Ursula Delworth, and Gary R. Hanson.
Abstract: Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1984, Vol 29(1), 75. Reviews the book, Helping Students Manage Stress: New Directions for Student Services, No. 21, March 1983 edited by Elizabeth M. Altmaier, Ursula Delworth, and Gary R. Hanson (1983). This book is designed to help the student service personnel worker become acquainted with a wide variety of special findings and techniques. The editor's introduction indicates that the purpose of this volume is to overview critically theory and research on stress to permit their extrapolation to programming designed to reduce stress on the campus. One underlying assumption is that campus life itself contains many elements generating chronic stress among students. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)

TL;DR: Martin this article presented a client-centered therapy method for anxiety-based problems based on fifteen years of teaching at the University of Chicago, which he described as a "how-to-do-it book".
Abstract: Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1984, Vol 29(4), 337–338. Reviews the book, Counseling and Therapy Skills by David G. Martin (1983). The author presents an only slightly modified version of the clientcentered therapy he learned at the University of Chicago. The author sought to write a how-to-do-it book based on fifteen years of teaching. He has succeeded. The book is clearly and simply written at a level that beginning graduate-student therapists can understand. The author also provides an audiocassette that shows five experienced therapists engaged in actual counseling sessions. The author argues that clients are automatically pacing themselves because of the dynamics of conflict. He also discusses other techniques used in support of his basic methods. He recommends his method for anxiety-based problems but recognizes that other methods may be necessary for other problems. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)

TL;DR: Isralowitz and Singer as discussed by the authors reviewed the book, Adolescent Substance Abuse: A Guide to Prevention and Treatment edited by Richard Isralowitz, and Mark Singer (1983), which may be of value to nondoctoral high school counselors who must regularly face drug abuse issues with students, parents and teachers.
Abstract: Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1984, Vol 29(10), 830. Reviews the book, Adolescent Substance Abuse: A Guide to Prevention and Treatment edited by Richard Isralowitz and Mark Singer (1983). This book may be of value to nondoctoral high school counselors who must regularly face drug abuse issues with students, parents, and teachers. The chapters on drug use in three special groups–black adolescents, Hispanic adolescents, and mentally retarded individuals–may be of great value to counselors who are about to begin work with those groups.
