TL;DR: In this article, the effects of communication skills training (CST) and cognitive therapy (CGT) in 32 severely distressed couples were compared, and a direct comparison between both conditions indicated that CGT was more effective on the main targets, whereas CST was more efficient on direct behavioral observation.
Abstract: Compared the effects of communication skills training (CST) and cognitive therapy (CGT) in 32 severely distressed couples. Ss receiving CST showed significant improvement on main targets, the Communication Questionnaire, and a relationship beliefs inventory. CGT resulted also in significant improvements on these measures. On the direct behavioral observation measure, CST was superior to CGT. A direct comparison between both conditions indicated that CGT was more effective on the main targets, whereas CST was more effective on direct behavioral observation. TL;DR: The reliable assessment of cognitions in outcome studies is discussed in this article, where the present authors' study of communication skills training and cognitive therapy for distressed couples is discussed. But the authors do not discuss the effect of the cognitions on the outcome of the outcome studies.
Abstract: Responds to comments made by N. Epstein and D. H. Baucom (see record 1989-16434-001) concerning the present authors' (see record 1989-16433-001) study of communication skills training and cognitive therapy for distressed couples. The reliable assessment of cognitions in outcome studies is discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2004 APA, all rights reserved)

TL;DR: Dissertations can be readily identified within the Psyc INFO database and can be compared with the set of dissertations accessible through Dissertation Abstracts Online.
Abstract: s Online in addition to PsycINFO and under what circumstances? Second, the database is important: PsycINFO is re spected, heavily used, and very large. The PsycINFO User Manual claims that 20 per cent of the records are citations to disserta tions.1 Even this portion of the database is as large as many other databases and is far too large to scan in its entirety. This study is feasible, however, because dissertations can be readily identified within the Psyc INFO database and can be compared with the set of dissertations accessible through Dissertation Abstracts Online.

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive model for Schizophrenic disorders is proposed based on the concept of a "vulnerable self" in its developmental, diagnostic, and treatment aspects, inspired by Pao's pioneering work.
Abstract: Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1988, Vol 33(1), 80. Reviews the book, Towards a Comprehensive Model for Schizophrenic Disorders: Psychoanalytic Essays in Memory of Ping-Nie Pao, M.D edited by David B. Feinsilver (see record 1986-97476-000). This volume offers original essays that collectively present Pao's pioneering work. Drawing on the range of insights provided by these contributors, editor delineates a model which, true to the spirit of Pao, shows how psychological and biological frames of reference can be integrated into a comprehensive treatment approach to schizophrenia. This model revolves around the concept of a “vulnerable self” in its developmental, diagnostic, and treatment aspects. This book will be of interest to those challenged by the possibility of a psychoanalytic theory of schizophrenia. Anyone seeking a new synthesis of psychoanalytic and medical theories will be disappointed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)

TL;DR: The authors demonstrated the productivity of BIOSIS versus PsycINFO citation output, and the implications attest to the usefulness of accessing BIOSIS as an adjunct bibliographic retrieval strategy when searching the professional literature.
Abstract: This study investigated the efficacy of using the database BIOSIS PREVIEWS as an online retrieval tool in clinical psychology. Considering the vast information store (53 million records) of this underutilized database, the authors demonstrated the productivity of BIOSIS versus PsycINFO citation output. Several illustrated examples were offered, and the implications of the results attest to the usefulness of accessing BIOSIS as an adjunct bibliographic retrieval strategy when searching the professional literature.
