TL;DR: In this article, an annular force reducer has been used to deform a monostable snap disc in response to the application of sufficient force, which can be used to change the operating characteristics of a switch.
Abstract: A pressure sensitive electrical switch has a monostable snap disc which is deformed in response to the application of sufficient force. A pressure reducer transmits a force proportional to the pressure of a fluid. The reducer has an annular force transmitting ring which applies force to the snap disc along a circle which is substantially concentric with the disc. By changing the force reducer in a switch to one having a different diameter ring, the operating characteristics of the switch may be changed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a motorized conveyor pulley with a rim and two end discs form a closed compartment and an electric motor and speed reducer are disposed in axial alignment with one another in the compartment.
Abstract: A motorized conveyor pulley in which a rim and two end discs form a closed compartment and an electric motor and speed reducer are disposed in axial alignment with one another in the compartment. The motor is supported by a nonrotatable shaft extending through one end disc, and the speed reducer is connected to the motor by an input shaft and has an output shaft which is rigidly connected to the other end disc for rotating the pulley in response to the operation of the motor. A bearing is provided on said first shaft for permitting free rotation of the pulley with respect to the motor and the shaft, which are preferably prevented from rotating by a torque arm connected to the shaft. The air in the compartment is recirculated through the motor and along the inside surface of the pulley rim to cool the motor. The enclosed compartment is essentially sealed to minimize the entrance of dirt, excess moisture and other foreign materials thereinto, thus prolonging the life of the motor and speed reducer and minimizing the service requirements on the pulley assembly.

TL;DR: A cooling system for gear reducers having a housing with a lubricant therein, in which a motor for the pump and heat exchanger are mounted on a base structure to form a unitary assembly which can be fully assembled in the manufacturing plant and delivered to and installed at the site of the gear reducer, is described in this paper.
Abstract: A cooling system for gear reducers having a housing with a lubricant therein, in which a motor for the pump and heat exchanger are mounted on a base structure to form a unitary assembly which can be fully assembled in the manufacturing plant and delivered to and installed at the site of the gear reducer. The temperature of the lubricant in the line from the gear reducer to the pump is sensed by a temperature responsive device and a control valve in the coolant line is regulated thereby for producing an intermittent flow to control the efficiency of the heat exchanger and thereby regulate the temperature of the lubricant in a predetermined range. A second temperature responsive device may be utilized to sense the temperature of the lubricant in the hot lubricant line and to shut down the equipment in the event the temperature of the lubricant, and consequently the temperature of the gear reducer, exceeds a predetermined value. A by-pass line having a relief valve may be included between the hot lubricant line and the return line to by-pass the lubricant around the heat exchanger in the event the flow through the heat exchanger becomes restricted and the pressure in the hot lubricant tends to become excessively high.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multiple power path concentric speed reducer is proposed for vehicle wheel drives, where the power or load is distributed equally between the several gear trains, and the center shaft may be the power input member, a housing the power output member and the axle the reaction member.
Abstract: A multiple power path concentric speed reducer in which a center shaft having a pinion thereon and an axle having an externally toothed gear thereon are disposed coaxially with respect to one another, and a plurality of gear trains operatively connect the pinion with the gear to provide multiple power path between the pinion and gear. The power or load is distributed equally between the several gear trains, and the center shaft may be the power input member, a housing the power output member and the axle the reaction member; or the center shaft may be the power input member, the axle the power output member, and the housing the reaction member. The concentric speed reducer is particularly adapted for use in vehicle wheel drives, especially in off-the-highway heavy duty equipment, wherein the speed reducer for each wheel is driven by a separate motor, such as a DC motor, mounted in or on the axle of the respective wheel.

TL;DR: In this paper, a drive mechanism for a belt conveyor system having a driven pulley and a belt trained thereon, the mechanism including a speed reducer disposed in the pulley, and having coaxial input and output shafts, the output shaft being a reaction shaft for the rotatable housing of the speed reduction, is provided.
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a belt conveyor system having a driven pulley and a belt trained thereon, the mechanism including a speed reducer disposed in the pulley and having coaxial input and output shafts, the output shaft being a reaction shaft for the rotatable housing of the speed reducer. The housing of the speed reducer is in axial alignment with the pulley and is connected thereto for driving the pulley. A brake is provided for restraining the rotation of the output shaft, and may consist of a disc rotatable with the output shaft and a hydraulically operated head controlled by a system including a pump driven by the output shaft in response to the load on the belt of the conveyor. The drive for the pump senses the load on the conveyor belt by the reaction response of the output shaft, thereby varying the rate at which the pressure in the hydraulic system increases to control the friction head indirectly in response to the conveyor load. A second brake, which may be a disc type with a hydraulically operated caliper head, is preferably included for controlling the conveyor system.

TL;DR: In this paper, a hydraulic motor, a non-self-locking speed reducer and a spring applied, hydraulically releasable brake are used for rotating a boom of a digger derrick or crane.
Abstract: A brake release arrangement by which damage which otherwise would result from the application of excessive side loading to rotating equipment such as the boom of a digger derrick or crane is avoided. The drive system for rotating the boom includes a hydraulic motor, a non self-locking speed reducer and a spring applied, hydraulically releasable brake. Included in the brake release mechanism is a line which taps into the hydraulic line leading to the power equipment mounted on the boom and whose operation develops side loads. An adjustable pressure reducing valve in the tap line provides a fluid output at a reselected pressure to a small chamber in the brake housing. The pressurized fluid in the chamber acts on a piston which, when the side loading on the boom is great enough to cause damage, partially relaxes the brake force thus to permit slippage and back drive of the speed reducer and motor thereby to relieve the side load torque.

TL;DR: In this article, the slugs follow each other along the main pipe, parallel to which there is a smaller compressed air auxiliary pipe, connected at regular intervals by branch pipes to the main one.
Abstract: The slugs follow each other along the main pipe, parallel to which there is a smaller compressed air auxiliary pipe, connected at regular intervals by branch pipes to the main one. A valve system delivers the auxiliary air in pulses to the main pipe, and the throttle system (7) equalising the pressure drop in stages over the conveyor length is incorporated in the auxiliary pipe. The throttle devices can be adjustable reducer valves acting if necessary also as measuring baffles, and there can be one of them after every, or every other, branch pipe. Means can be provided (9) for controlling the auxiliary air in regular pulses, so as to deliver the material at regular intervals, typically in the form of regularly actuated valves in each branch pipe.
