TL;DR: In this paper, two television reception tuners are used in a viewing center system, one for the television signals and the other for supplementary information transmitted during the blanking intervals and separated in the reception center by a data separation stage.
Abstract: At least two television reception tuners are used in a viewing center system, one for the television signals and the other for supplementary information transmitted during the blanking intervals and separated in the reception center by a data separation stage. A programmable control stage including a microprocessor accepts information not only from the data separator, but also from a manual remote control input device and from a timing control stage. A signal source switching unit for both the audio part and the composite video part of television signals is controlled by the microprocessor and interconnects signal sources including the tuners and auxiliary equipment, such as recording devices, a local camera, television games, and so on, with audio and video output devices. A digital data bus provides control to the various input and output devices.

Abstract: A remote control system utilizes a portion of television receiver system to control an external appliance through the AC power supply line. The user enters an appliance control command into the keyboard of the television remote control unit. Inside the television receiver, the appliance control command is encoded and modulated onto a carrier signal which is transmitted on the AC power supply line. An external appliance control module, also connected to the AC power supply line, is located near the external appliance for detecting the encoded appliance control command and for selectively controlling the AC power supplied to the external appliance.

TL;DR: In this paper, an annunciator/intercom enabled for operation by the remote control system is described. But the radio frequency signal is not considered. But it is assumed that the user can hear a telephone call when the television receiver is operated in the annunciators mode.
Abstract: A television receiver comprises a television system energized by the powerlines of a commercial power grid, a telephone network access system including a microphone disposed in close proximity with the audio speaker of the television system and a remote control system enabling the receiver to be operated in a television mode or a telephone mode. The television receiver according to the invention is characterized by having an annunciator/intercom enabled for operation by the remote control system. In the annunciator mode, the audio section of the television system is disabled and the microphone is connected through a radio-frequency signal transmitter to the power lines for generating a radio-frequency signal for local transmission. A frequency-modulator is included for modulating the radio frequency signal. At least one remotely located radio-frequency receiver coupled to the power lines is provided for receiving and demodulating the radio-frequency signal and rendering audible television receiver user voice signals. The television receiver user can therefore announce a telephone caller when the television receiver is operated in the annunciator mode. Alternately, intercom units may be employed to provide a two-way intercom conversation link between the television receiver user and a remotely located called party.

TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility of providing adequate human-engineered cabs in thin coal seams through the use of a remotely positioned operator was evaluated under contract to the U.S. Bureau of Mines.
Abstract: Preliminary results are presented for a study to determine the feasibility of providing adequate human-engineered cabs in thin coal seams through the use of a remotely positioned operator. This study, which is being performed under contract to the U.S. Bureau of Mines, concentrates on the development of a cab for a continuous miner and involves three phases. First, workers were observed and questioned to produce a detailed task analysis of work performed by the miner operator and his helper, and a critical incidents analysis was conducted to define system requirements for handling unusual events in the work place. Second, evaluations were made of remote continuous mining system components in order to develop a baseline system configuration. Third, a baseline design concept was developed consisting of a remote, two-wheeled trailer cab linked to a Jeffrey 101 miner by coaxial cable. The miner is modified by adding to it an automatic cable handling system, a multiplexed remote control and sensor system, and ...
