TL;DR: Serval provides a new layer 3.5 service abstraction that naturally supports mobility, multi-homing, and multi-path transport, while CRYSTAL is a new virtualization scheme for software radios that makes it easier to expose greater network diversity at the network edge.
Abstract: The primary focus of the NEBULA Future Internet Architecture is to provide resilient networking for the emerging cloud computing model. One of the attractions of cloud computing is its support for online services and data storage by thin clients such as mobile devices. This paper describes two components of NEBULA's edge network technology, Serval and CRYSTAL. Serval provides a new layer 3.5 service abstraction that naturally supports mobility, multi-homing, and multi-path transport, while CRYSTAL is a new virtualization scheme for software radios that makes it easier to expose greater network diversity at the network edge.

TL;DR: IOGDS is a faceted browsing interface for searching over more than one million open government datasets from around the world and it is discussed how the Web service abstraction layer in the S2S framework can be extended to support the use of external vocabularies to aid in the discovery of open government data.
Abstract: In this poster, we will present the International Open Government Dataset Search (IOGDS). IOGDS is a faceted browsing interface for searching over more than one million open government datasets from around the world. We will present ongoing research and development towards the improved discovery and access to open government data. IOGDS has been designed around S2S, a framework for constructing user interfaces over Semantic Web services. We will discuss how the Web service abstraction layer in the S2S framework can be extended to support the use of external vocabularies to aid in the discovery of open government datasets. We will also discuss how the S2S framework can provide localization and context for non-expert users to improve the accessibility of open government data.

TL;DR: A new network path advising service (NPAS) that helps future applications choose network paths based on both recent path measurements and end-to-end feedback collected from other applications.
Abstract: A common feature of emerging future Internet architectures is the ability for applications to select the path, or paths, their packets take between the source and destination. Unlike the current Internet architecture where routing protocols find a single (best) path between a source and destination, future Internet routing protocols will need to present applications with a choice of paths. Even if the routing service can return a list of possible paths, the huge number of potential paths and the need to know the current network conditions of each of the proposed paths will make it virtually impossible for applications to select the best set of paths, or just the best path. In this paper, we present a new network path advising service (NPAS) that helps future applications choose network paths. Given a set of possible paths, the NPAS service helps applications select appropriate paths based on both recent path measurements and end-to-end feedback collected from other applications. We describe the NPAS service abstraction, API calls, and a distributed architecture that achieves scalability by determining the most important things to monitor based on actual usage. Finally, we describe a prototype implementation of the NPAS service.

TL;DR: The predicate abstraction and refinement technology is introduced into the traditional model checking method, and a framework for web services composition based on the technology of abstraction and refine is proposed.
Abstract: Model checking has been widely used to verify the compatibility of web services composition model, since it can give counterexample and its high automation. As for the state explosion problem existed in model checking, we introduce the predicate abstraction and refinement technology into the traditional model checking method, and propose a framework for web services composition based on the technology of abstraction and refinement. First, we model each web service with predicate abstraction and composite the models with combination operation. Second, we project the counterexample obtained by model checking over each web service, and confirm the projection counterexample. Third, the web service abstraction model that caused spurious counterexample is refined, and a new composition abstract model, whose properties also should be verified, is generated. Finally, we show the correctness of our proposal to relieve state explosion.

TL;DR: The Mercado architecture is proposed as a vehicle to use economic incentives and the sophisticated capabilities of modern mobile networks and devices to change the mobile networking service abstraction to better utilize networking resources.
Abstract: In this paper we propose the Mercado architecture as a vehicle to use economic incentives and the sophisticated capabilities of modern mobile networks and devices to change the mobile networking service abstraction to better utilize networking resources. Our proposed architecture generalizes to enable rich interaction and information exchange between mobile devices and the network. However, as a first step we focus our efforts on the scenario where a mobile device with non-real time network workload, would interact with the network to explore the financial incentives available if it were to delay using the network. Combining the network response with knowledge of the application semantics allows the application to perform its own economic vs utility tradeoff.

TL;DR: This study presented a service-oriented analysis and design of the online sales process integration for a case company and used the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) to realize the service orchestration and composition, thus achieving service reusability.
Abstract: In recent years, enterprises try to develop the online sales systems in order to reach various customers in different places and expect to bring better profit or company exposure via the internet and mobile device channels. However, different platforms, technologies, transaction rules, policies and processes have resulted in data dispersion and business logic inconsistency that is hard for the company to audit and manage. This study presented a service-oriented analysis and design of the online sales process integration for our case company. We analyzed and modeled the processes using the service-oriented modeling and architecture (SOMA) approach to identify service candidates, and also utilized service component architecture (SCA) to create web services for activities required for the processes. Based on the function of services, business rules and logic, the corresponding service abstraction layer of the integrated online sales process is established. Finally, this study used the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) to realize the service orchestration and composition, thus achieving service reusability. With the SOA solution, the case company can efficiently integrate resources and that the enterprise system become more flexible, agile and cost-effective.

TL;DR: A new kernel design model Dhara is presented, that raises the level of abstraction from objects and procedures to services to services and paves the way for building a new distributed OS kernel.
Abstract: Traditional procedural operating system (OS) kernels sacrifice maintainability and understandability for optimum performance. Though object oriented (OO) kernels can address these problems up to a certain extent, they lack the layered approach of services and service compositions. We present a new kernel design model Dhara, that raises the level of abstraction from objects and procedures to services. The service model of Dhara is richer in abstractions than current web service model and paves the way for building a new distributed OS kernel. Dhara conceives an OS as being constructed by multiple stacks of services containing several layers of abstracted services. A key research challenge we envisage in building such model is automatic service compositions of kernel services which can provide desired QoS. A kernel built using Dhara can easily be customized using composed services to derive optimal performance for different applications such as databases. A prototype is developed using Linux kernel as a case study by applying the design concepts of Dhara. We show that overhead of implementation of Dhara is 5% to 15%, which is reasonable, considering the advantages of new design and increased capacity of the hardware in recent times.

TL;DR: The service-oriented radio configuration SORA solves a technical problem that over-tight coupling between each module of a radio configuration in the prior art obstructs cooperation exploitation and agility upgrade of the modules; the unified interface description mode and the standard interaction protocol are employed for each module.
Abstract: The invention belongs to the software radio system field and relates to the service-oriented radio configuration SORA. The service-oriented radio configuration SORA comprises a radio infrastructure layer, a radio service layer and a radio application layer, wherein the radio infrastructure layer is used for providing a basic function unit, the radio service layer is abstraction of radio functions provided by the radio infrastructure layer, the radio application layer is realized through integration of radio services, the radio infrastructure layer forms multiple types of radio services through service packaging, and service abstraction is realized through describing the services. The service-oriented radio configuration SORA solves a technical problem that over-tight coupling between each module of a radio configuration in the prior art obstructs cooperation exploitation and agility upgrade of the modules; the unified interface description mode and the standard interaction protocol are employed for each module, so services are enabled to realize connection and communication through a loose coupling mode, configuration system flexibility and business agility are improved, and module cooperation exploitation and expansion upgrade are convenient.
