TL;DR: In this paper, an expository overview of cable shields and shielding quality is given, up to and including the V.H.F. band, leading to the problem of evaluating different shields whilst still at the design stage.
Abstract: : An expository overview of cable shields and shielding quality is given, up to and including the V.H.F. band, leading to the problem of evaluating different shields whilst still at the design stage. The changes in shielding effectiveness brought about by small design changes can be adequately gauged by the measurement of surface transfer impedance on short sample lengths. The frequency range for the measurements presented in this paper on all types of shield is up to 300 MHz. Some experimental results are presented and discussed, including a section on copolymer bonded aluminum sheaths. Here a study was made of the effects of overlap width and bonding copolymer thickness.
