TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetic and spectroscopic properties of dihydrates and anhydrous copper(II) complexes with methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl and benzyl thioglycolic acids were investigated.
Abstract: The dihydrates and anhydrous copper(II) complexes with methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, and benzyl thioglycolic acids were synthesized, and their properties were investigated. The magnetic data show that the copper in the complexes is divalent and that the complexes do not have a copper(II) acetate structure. The spectroscopic data show that these ligands bond to the central metal ion as strongly as does amino acid or water. In the case of isopropyl thioglycolato copper(II) dihydrate, the blue and the violet isomers were obtained. The structures of the complexes in the solid state as well as in the solution were discussed.

TL;DR: Some new metal chelate compounds of ethanediylidenetetrathiotetraacetic acid (H4ETTA), such as Co2L·5H2O, Co 2L·4H 2O and FeHL·3.5H 2 O, were obtained in this paper, where the infrared spectra and other properties of these compounds were compared with those of other thioglycolic acid derivatives.
Abstract: Some new metal chelate compounds of ethanediylidenetetrathiotetraacetic acid (H4ETTA), Co2L·5H2O, Cu2L·4H2O, Zn2L·3H2O, Ni2L·6H2O, and FeHL·3.5H2O, where H4L is H4ETTA, were obtained. The infrared spectra and other properties of these compounds were compared with those of the metal complexes of other thioglycolic acid derivatives, some of which are also new compounds. Judging from the wave numbers of the stretching bands, the carboxyl group of these complexes can be said to be rather ionic. Though the bond is not very strong, thioglycolic acid derivatives seem to bond with the central metal ion with both the sulfur atom and the carboxyl group.

TL;DR: In this article, a single reagent formulation for use in the spectrophotometric determination of iron, which is capable of carrying out the multiple functions required in spectral determination, comprises a solution of thioglycolic acid, a buffer to maintain the pH of the solution at a predetermined value or range and a ferroin reagent present in an amount effective to form a colored complex with the iron in a test sample.

Superior solubilizing of the iron in a test sample is achieved when ammonium hydroxide serves as the buffer.

TL;DR: In this paper, the degradation of the pyrimidine moiety of thiamine for the use of radioactive determination of individual carbon atoms is discussed, which can be exhaustively methylated and the product hydrolytically cleaved, thus giving information about all the carbon atoms.
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the degradation of the pyrimidine moiety of thiamine for the use of radioactive determination of individual carbon atoms. The bisulfite cleavage of thiamine quantitatively yields 4-amino-2-methylpyrimidine-5-methylsulfonic acid. This is converted to the more easily purifiable 4-hydroxy derivative, which is then oxidized by the Kuhn–Roth method giving C-2 and C-8 as acetic acid. The thioglycolic acid cleavage of oxythiamine yields 4-hydroxy-2-methylpyrimidine-5-methylthioacetic acid. After purification, this compound can be treated by two different methods—including, (1) reduction by sodium in alcohol gives 1,3-diamino-2-methylpropane, which can be oxidized by the Kuhn–Roth method to give acetic acid from C-5 and C-7 and (2) Raney nickel reduction gives 4-hydroxy-2,5-dimethylpyrimidine, which can be exhaustively methylated and the product hydrolytically cleaved, thus giving information about all the carbon atoms.
