Effect of salt stress on cucumber: Na+–K+ ratio, osmolyte concentration, phenols and chlorophyll content

TL;DR: A pot experiment with 17 diverse genotypes of cucumber with four levels of salt stress viz., 0, 2, 4 and 6 dS m−1 was carried out during 2006 as mentioned in this paper, where significant differences among genotypes and genotype × salt stress interaction indicating the genetic variability and differential response of the genotypes to different salt stress levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytotaxonomical analysis of Momordica L. (Cucurbitaceae) species of Indian occurrence.

TL;DR: Evidence from morphology, crossability, pollen viability and chromosome synapsis suggests a segmental allopolyploid origin for M. cymbalaria, a taxon of controversial taxonomic identity of the Momordica genus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic diversity of ash gourd [Benincasa hispida (Thunb.) Cogn.] inbred lines based on RAPD and ISSR markers and their hybrid performance

TL;DR: The results indicated significant positive correlations of genetic distance with hybrid performance and heterosis, but the RAPD based genetic distance measures and use of limited ISSR markers could not effectively predict hybrid performance in this crop.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sex inheritance and development of gynoecious hybrids in bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.)

TL;DR: Gynoecism has been used on a large scale in heterosis breeding of cucumber and showed significant heterosis in a desirable direction for traits like sex ratio (male:female), days to first picking, number of fruits per plant, yield per plant and vine length.
