Evaluating effects of traffic and vehicle characteristics on vehicular emissions near traffic intersections

An urban network of signalized intersections can be suitably modeled as a hybrid system, in which the vehicle flow behavior is described by means of a time-driven model and the traffic light dynamics are represented by a discrete event model. In this paper, a model of such a network via hybrid Petri nets is used to state and solve the problem of coordinating several traffic lights with the aim of improving the performance of some classes of special vehicles, i.e., public and emergency vehicles. The proposed model has been validated using real traffic data relevant to the city of Torino, Italy. Some relevant experimental results are reported and discussed.

Urban traffic control structure based on hybrid Petri nets

Proposes a fuzzy multimodel to describe the behavior of vehicles at a road crossing in order to improve the analysis and performance evaluation of traffic systems. This new model inspired by stochastic Petri nets consists of linear local models based on a Takagi-Sugeno model and may be used for other stochastic systems. The approach is illustrated by a simple road crossing.

Many models are used to describe urban traffic : cellular automata, continuous Petri nets models, Tolba et al.(2001). In this paper we give a graph modelling of an urban network, and we propose a relationship between max flow obtained by Ford Fulkerson Algorithm (1956) for single network and the global max flow for the whole network. It allows to obtain a valuation of the latter for complex models.

Optimisation for urban congestion problems

This paper presents an analysis of the dynamic behavior of manufacturing systems, as a basis for the control study. In this paper we present the special case of an open manufacturing line as an example. We present an analysis as well as an algorithm for minimizing the overall evolution time of a manufacturing line. The objective is to study the effect of changing the flow rate of the pieces arriving to the line on the overall performance of the manufacturing line (settling time, throughput) during the transient and the stationary regions.

Analysis of manufacturing lines using a phase space algorithm

For the purpose of controlling discrete event systems (DES) modelled by variable speed continuous Petri nets (VSCPn), the authors propose in this paper a transformation of equations describing the marking time evolution in terms of state equations. The authors discuss the use of this representation.
