Postsurgical mediastinitis: a case-control study.

TL;DR: The results of a case-control study of postsurgical mediastinitis (PSM) that was conducted from 1985 to 1993 revealed that death was significantly more frequent among cases than among controls, and risk factors were emergency surgery, New York Heart Association functional class IV, and coronary artery bypass graft.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytopathic effect inhibition assay for determining the in-vitro susceptibility of herpes simplex virus to antiviral agents

TL;DR: A rapid dilution method for the determination of antiviral susceptibility of herpes simplex virus (HSV) with the plaque reduction assay provides an easy and accurate screening procedure for the susceptibility testing of HSV to antiviral agents.

Evolution of the antimicrobial resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Spain: Second National Study (2003)

Isabel Sánchez-Romero, +236 more
TL;DR: In Spain, from 1998 to 2003, the susceptibility pattern of P. aeruginosa to antimicrobial agents has changed and isolates have become significantly more resistant to fluoroquinolones and carbapenems, however, resistance to beta-lactams and aminoglycosides remains stable.
Journal ArticleDOI

Invasive disease caused by ciprofloxacin-resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli.

TL;DR: Most ciprofloxacin-resistant strains associated with invasive disease were isolated from bacteremic patients who had recently undergone an invasive procedure involving the urinary tract, suggesting that resistance to cIProfl Oxacin may decrease the invasiveness of uropathogenic Escherichia coli.
