TL;DR: The results strongly suggest that women should neither be offered an elective CS nor be discouraged from breast-feeding on the basis of HCV infection alone, and the sex association is an intriguing finding that probably reflects biological differences in susceptibility or response to infection.

TL;DR: In the European Collaborative Study as mentioned in this paper, data on 156 HIV-infected and 1533 uninfected children were followed from birth until at least 8 years of age, and significant associations were shown between race and gender and neutrophil count, as previously observed for lymphocyte counts.
