Vaccines for preventing influenza in healthy adults
TL;DR: This review presents findings from 25 studies comparing inactivated parenteral influenza vaccine against placebo or do-nothing control groups as the most relevant to decision-making over single influenza seasons in North America, South America, and Europe between 1969 and 2009.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vaccines for preventing influenza in the elderly
Vittorio Demicheli,Tom Jefferson,Carlo Di Pietrantonj,Eliana Ferroni,Sarah Thorning,Roger E. Thomas,A Rivetti +6 more
TL;DR: The study providing data for mortality and pneumonia was underpowered to detect differences in these outcomes, and the evidence as low certainty due to uncertainty over how influenza was diagnosed reduced the certainty in the findings for influenza and ILI, but not for other outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy and effectiveness of influenza vaccines in elderly people: a systematic review
TL;DR: In long-term care facilities, where vaccination is most effective against complications, the aims of the vaccination campaign are fulfilled, at least in part, but according to reliable evidence the usefulness of vaccines in the community is modest.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vaccines for preventing influenza in healthy children
Sue Erica Smith,Vittorio Demicheli,C Di Pietrantonj,Anthony Harnden,Tom Jefferson,Nicholas J Matheson,A Rivetti +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that in children aged from two years, nasal spray vaccines made from weakened influenza viruses were better at preventing illness caused by the influenza virus than injected vaccine made from the killed virus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses: systematic review
Tom Jefferson,Chris Del Mar,Liz Dooley,Eliana Ferroni,Lubna A. Al-Ansary,Ghada Bawazeer,Mieke L van Driel,Ruth Foxlee,A Rivetti +8 more
TL;DR: Routine long term implementation of some of the measures to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses might be difficult, however, many simple and low cost interventions reduce the transmission of epidemic respiratory viruses.
