In order to ensure the continuity of energy, it is necessary to regulate electricity consumption by providing the necessary real-time data to consumers. Currently, real-time data on energy consumption and information on the appropriate consumption time are not fully available for consumers. In addition, data is read manually at the end of each month to provide monthly invoices, a workforce is needed to complete this work, and errors occur due to human intervention. The proposed real-time invoice-based smart meter system is a measuring device to automatically read the data and provide the consumer with information on the energy consumed per hour, day, and month. The device helps the consumer choose the most suitable time for energy consumption and predicts the time when the amount of energy consumed exceeds the desired power.

PID Controller Based Self Stabilizing for Inertia Platform using Electrical Parallel Technology

This paper presents a GSM and Wi-Fi based Low Cost Single phase Smart Prepaid Energy Meter with some functionalities such as keypad and screen implemented in embedded software. The design was borne out of the desire to ensure that smart prepaid meters are made available at a reduced cost. The methodology involves hardware and software. The hardware made use of integrated circuits (ICs) and discrete components. At the heart of the design is Atmega644P microcontroller which was interfaced to ADE7755 energy meter IC, GSM800L modem, Wi-Fi module, tamper switch, buzzer and other components. The microcontroller is used for monitoring and controlling the activities of the meter especially the ADE7755 used in producing pulses from consumption which are then measured and recorded by the microcontroller as Energy measurement. SIM800L was used to achieve communication between the meter and the web server. The Wi-Fi is used to access the meter for recharging. The software aspect involved the programming of the microcontroller using C++ and the use of a webpage with an associated web server for meter administration and control as well as meter token recharge validation. The prototype performed satisfactorily under different loads. Other functionalities such as tampering detection, token recharge, meter registration and meter information viewing on the webpage were successfully executed. Again, the cost of the meter is less than the cost of commercially available meters in Nigeria by N18,313.39. The GSM and Wi-Fi low cost smart energy meter designed and implemented worked satisfactorily and it is effective. 

Design and Implementation of a GSM and Wi-Fi Based Low Cost Smart Prepaid Energy Meter

The reliable operating state of smart electricity meters is significant in industrial applications. Faulty meters or meters in a poor measurement state will seriously impact both customers and stakeholders. However, the maintenance personnel now still use the manually periodic sampling inspection from the batch of smart electricity meters to evaluate the state of the entire batch, which has limitations of blindness, poor real time, inadequate, and insufficient examination. With the population of smart meters, it is feasible to evaluate the health condition of these devices with big data and artificial intelligence technology. One significant contribution of this article is first proposing an operating state evaluation method of smart electricity meters based on the transformer–encoder and bidirectional long-term and short-term memory. The evaluation indicators and preprocess of meters’ data are carefully selected. A deep neural network is constructed and trained, the experimental verification is carried out, and the performance of the proposed method is compared with that of other traditional methods. The results show that the average classification accuracy of the proposed neural network model is 99.5%. Besides, compared with conventional machine learning and deep learning models, the proposed model is suitable for the operation state evaluation of smart electricity meters. From the experimental result, the potential benefit of the proposed method is that it could improve the accuracy and robustness of state evaluation.1

It also features mobile connectivity (optional) through which the user can diagnose his/her health by comparing the data obtained from the device that has been stored in the app. As the demand for healthcare devices is increasing, the cost to own one is also increasing day by day. To make sure that a huge sector of people can own one, the proposed method made sure to make Any Time Healthcare Device as affordable as possible when compared to the other multipurpose devices.

Non-Invasive Method of Detecting Anemia using AI & IoT

Voltage Ampere Power Smart Meter (VAPSM) also provides utility providers an efficient way to collect data for billing and also save the costs of the trips to the physical location of the meter. VAPSM production cost is low and it also provides flexibility of design by using microcontroller which can provide an additional option to perform other controlled or automated tasks. VAPSM communicates with the consumer and utility provider. Smart Energy Meter substitutes outdated meters and enable the energy usage access to every residential and industrial user in smart cities.

Design and Operation of Smart Energy Meter for Effective Energy Utilization in Smart Cities

The Electrical Grid (EG) is considered to function as an arrangement residing of distribution, transmission and generation with the help and support of different controlling devices to sustain system constancy, productivity & reliability. Operation and control of three phase MicroGrid is about productive control and monitoring. This involves the stability of voltages and frequency at generator Bus Bar (BB). This is effectuated by maintaining the field excitation voltages of Synchronous Generator (SG) to have 380V/440V at the BB. Furthermore, frequency at the Bus Bar is maintained at approximately 50Hz by supervising the speed of prime mover. Over and done with these projects, the undergraduate students, in accumulation to triumph used to with the fundamentals of Electrical Machines. For the institution, excellence laboratory instrument was established at a low cost; it is rigid, reliable and provides maximum learning outcomes of MicroGrid.
